Aircon - it was very hot. Wildlife - iguanas, birds and basilisks came to visit. Proximity to the beach (the north beach is much the better of the two). Restaurants and supermarkets nearby.

The setting of the property is absolutely gorgeous in the beautiful jungle, with many opportunities to see wildlife right there. Erickson and his family go above and beyond with making the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I was taken on an afternoon walk on my first afternoon to get to know the birds and wildlife. I went without a car and Erickson constantly helped me with taxi transfers, which they run from a separate family business. Maria, the mother, cooked delicious meals from scratch every evening (for the full duration of my 5 night stay) and it was the best meals I had in CR. All my tours were also arranged for me, which were all fantastic. Cannot recommend this place enough!

We loved everything. From the moment we were picked up by Steven, and driven to this beautiful hideaway, we didn't stop smiling.
We came to Greenleaf at the end of a 2 1/2 week adventure around the North and west of Costa Rica, and we'd already been in Drake Bay for a few days first, but wanted to finish our trip with a bit of luxury and relaxation with amazing views, and this exactly is what Greenleaf provided.
Helen, and Steven, welcomed us with open arms into their wonderful setting. We were treated to delicious juices, fresh fruits, amazing food (which catered brilliantly for my vegan ways), bird watching, coaty spotting and introductions to the whole monkey family who live in the jungle behind the bungalows. Helen was so helpful before we even arrived, booking our snorkeling trip for us, as well as arranging our flight back to San Jose from Drake Bay. Steven was so kind, offering to drive us any where we needed, getting us to and from the snorkeling pick up, as well as dropping us off at the airport. They both make such a dream team, you can really understand why people come back year after year.
At the end of a wonderful trip we couldn't have chosen a better place to soak up all our adventures and add this magical experience as a wonderful cherry on top.
If you are thinking of going to Drake bay, make sure you stay here, or at least get in touch with them for all their amazing local knowledge and passion.
Thank you for making us feel part of the family.

Great place to stay if you want to visit Corcovado national park. Not only Corcovado is worthwhile but Drake Bay itself as well. I would recommend taking the boat from Sierpe to Drake Bay as it’s very convenient and the boat ride is extremely scenic!

Very nice peaceful place, at the grounds of a friendly costarican family, right on the edge of the rainforest. Beautiful Ganadito beach is at walking distance. The cabin where we slept was new and fine.

The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you must visit them with a guide for the appropriate access and to really appreciate what is there. Drake is a the ideal place from which to reach the parks. We travelled to Drake Bay by intercity bus from San Jose and connected with the ferry. The "wet landing" was a first for us - a genuine adventure where the ferry assistants wade your luggage to shore on their shoulders and the passengers just focus on getting themselves to shore. The ferry takes an hour or so through amazing mangroves. Make sure to tell your hotel to book you on the ferry to avoid misunderstanding -- there are only two ferries per day and you don't want to lose a day/night in Sierpe.
The park is amazing --book a tour well in advance as daily entries are limited. Access to the park is by boat. Birds galore, several species of monkey including the mighty howler, tapirs, two species of ant eater, and many more creatures. We did the snorkeling tour too which was also amazing. We saw deep sea turtles, sharks, manta rays and a plethora of species of fish. Beautiful, pristine and rules about not interrupting wildlife. For example, we were watching a turtle and she started to rise for air and we all had to move back 4-6 metres and we had the joy of then watching her float on the surface for a while and just rock in the waves. Being herself and breathing without feeling anxious

The town, while not a secret by any means, has still avoided the trappings of rampant tourisim. There is a local vibe that is genuine and refreshing.. I like that the town is still a bit rough on the edges.
The abundance of world class outdoor experiences is the icing on the cake.

It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it.
It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it. Beautiful walking trail to san josecito, magnificent view, good restaurants (kalaluna & coco cafe), a lot of activities. You have access to the Corcovado NP, waters are calmer than most beaches in costa rica (good for swimming). Snorkeling tour to cano was great!

It is a very remote, relaxed place.
It is a very remote, relaxed place. Great to experience the simple life. There is a beautiful hiking trail along the coast line to more secluded beaches. Many activities to be done from the beach, including day trips to Corcovado national park, night tours, snorkelling trips.
The beach itself is not amazingly beautiful- it’s not pristine white sand and clear waters- it has a very rustic feeling and there are no beach bars. But there are places to eat just up from the beach or grab a drink from the supermarket. We saw a lot of wildlife! Scarlet macaws are flying around. There’s a nice restaurant called Lookout restaurant with good food and a great view over the bay.
Tooke a boat ride from Sierpe, Petra organised everything and it was quite an interesting ride. Be prepared to have to walk through the water onto the beach!
Lovely hotel in the little town of Drake, didn't realise that there are multiple places along the coast you can stay.
Rooms were comfy and the airconditioning was welcomed during the hot afternoon.
Breakfast was good, they even let us keep it aside on the day we went to Corcovado National park as it's an early start on a boat and I get motion sickness.
First I was sceptical, but this is a no brainer. The owners are nice, and its bascially a small house on their property, in the middle of Drake Bay. The room is quite big, has a powerful fan, a kitchenette, plently of power outlets, a big fridge and a small terrace. The bathroom has a shower and everything you need. From the terrace you can see a resort restaurant below, and if you're friendly enough they even give you a coffee at 5am. :)
For that price, Casita Tangara is a bargain.
Everything, the room, the shower, the place, how beautiful everything looked. The restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in drake bay. How you can see the the beach. It is very cost effective and the host will be there for you for everything. She really helped. I recommend this place... is one of the best hotel I have ever been.
By the way, they took us from the boat to the hotel when we arrived and after check out.
Thanks, Teresa.
The cabana itself is beautiful; it was very clean, has a full kitchen that is well-stocked with dishes and utensils to do your own cooking, has a wonderful view and porch, and feels pretty solitary despite being surrounded by other hotels and cabanas. Emanuel was a great host, he was very friendly and helpful. It is very conveniently located to the beach, where many of the different tours take off from.
The balcony in my room offered amazing opportunities for great close views of birds and other wildlife including macaws, aracaris, tanagers, woodpeckers, and lizards.
The property has a on-site restaurant with beautiful food. We really appreciated Dixon, the chef’s healthy menu for breakfast and dinner.
It is an easy walk from the hotel to the beach and all tours.
Staff was very responsive in the lead up to the stay and met us at the beach when our boat landed at Drake Bay. They also returned us to the beach early on our departure morning so that we could catch our boat to Sierpe. The hotel is in the village, which made connecting with our guides and boats very easy - the rooms were very nice and clean.
We got a simple room with a drake bay view. In our room no AC but a fan, was ok.
All was ok, especially the host super friendly and helpful.
Breakfast could be served upon request.
You can use the common room, kitchen, fridge. Also the food in the local restaurant was very good.
Beach and place to buy beer is nearby, minutes away.
The hands down best part of this hotel is the incredibly warm and accommodating staff led by the adorable Petra. They were always available with a friendly smile and quick solution to any question. The hotel has a rustic style that makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a cozy cabin in the woods. The restaurant was also very good!
Beautiful property away from town, definitely need 4x4 vehicle to stay here. Host family is very welcoming and kind. He would point out the different animals when they were around so we could see them. Breakfasts were great and varied each morning. Very close walk to the local beach and Drake Hiking Trail.
We loved this hotel- amazing views, outdoor shower, and cute and comfortable cabins. The staff is so nice and is really flexible about breakfast (we had a tour at 6AM and they brought us breakfast at 5AM). Would highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for an adventure!
Nicely located on a hillside overlooking Drake Bay. Quiet and peaceful location. Great terrace and outlook to watch sunsets and wildlife in the early morning. Very friendly and supportive staff. Relaxed vibe. Close to beach for the twice daily swim!
Casa Horizontes is a bit rustic but wonderful. Pedro and Yami, the owners, couldn’t be nicer. We felt like family. The location above Drake Bay is spectacular. Pedro builtthe place himself and it has a hand crafted feel.
Great stay at Drake Bay, staff really go out the way to help you; we were picked up by car from the boat and dropped off on the last day, all excursions and boats were booked for us by the hotel. Very nice breakfast!
We had the top most room (#5) which had a beautiful view and a jacuzzi, which we didn’t end up using. Very friendly and helpful folks at the hotel too and the attached restaurant across the road, ie Casa El Tortuga.
Great spot in the middle of Drake Bay, right next to supermarkets and restaurants and only a few minutes from the beach. Nice views of the bay from the balcony. Helpful and friendly staff.
The nicest place I’ve stayed. A convenient and easy walk along the beach to Downtown Drake. Great on site restaurant and a charming staff that gets it all done.
