Aircon - it was very hot. Wildlife - iguanas, birds and basilisks came to visit. Proximity to the beach (the north beach is much the better of the two). Restaurants and supermarkets nearby.

The cabins are located on beautiful grounds, and the room was simple but clean and comfortable, with a good fan. We loved having the little terrace with a hammock.
The pool area was very nice, and welcome in the heat.
The staff were helpful in arranging transfers for us and also booked us on a night tour.
We opted to have lunch on one of the days, which was delicious.

Very nice peaceful place, at the grounds of a friendly costarican family, right on the edge of the rainforest. Beautiful Ganadito beach is at walking distance. The cabin where we slept was new and fine.

The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you...
The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you must visit them with a guide for the appropriate access and to really appreciate what is there. Drake is a the ideal place from which to reach the parks. We travelled to Drake Bay by intercity bus from San Jose and connected with the ferry. The "wet landing" was a first for us - a genuine adventure where the ferry assistants wade your luggage to shore on their shoulders and the passengers just focus on getting themselves to shore. The ferry takes an hour or so through amazing mangroves. Make sure to tell your hotel to book you on the ferry to avoid misunderstanding -- there are only two ferries per day and you don't want to lose a day/night in Sierpe.
The park is amazing --book a tour well in advance as daily entries are limited. Access to the park is by boat. Birds galore, several species of monkey including the mighty howler, tapirs, two species of ant eater, and many more creatures. We did the snorkeling tour too which was also amazing. We saw deep sea turtles, sharks, manta rays and a plethora of species of fish. Beautiful, pristine and rules about not interrupting wildlife. For example, we were watching a turtle and she started to rise for air and we all had to move back 4-6 metres and we had the joy of then watching her float on the surface for a while and just rock in the waves. Being herself and breathing without feeling anxious

The town, while not a secret by any means, has still avoided the trappings of rampant tourisim. There is a local vibe that is genuine and refreshing.. I like that the town is still a bit rough on the edges.
The abundance of world class outdoor experiences is the icing on the cake.

It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it.
It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it. Beautiful walking trail to san josecito, magnificent view, good restaurants (kalaluna & coco cafe), a lot of activities. You have access to the Corcovado NP, waters are calmer than most beaches in costa rica (good for swimming). Snorkeling tour to cano was great!

It is a very remote, relaxed place.
It is a very remote, relaxed place. Great to experience the simple life. There is a beautiful hiking trail along the coast line to more secluded beaches. Many activities to be done from the beach, including day trips to Corcovado national park, night tours, snorkelling trips.
The beach itself is not amazingly beautiful- it’s not pristine white sand and clear waters- it has a very rustic feeling and there are no beach bars. But there are places to eat just up from the beach or grab a drink from the supermarket. We saw a lot of wildlife! Scarlet macaws are flying around. There’s a nice restaurant called Lookout restaurant with good food and a great view over the bay.

In Drake there is Corcovado Park, snorkeling, scuba diving and a public trail at the end of the beach to hike. 3 - 4 days is sufficient. Would take boat in from Sierpe, not drive in. The road is 25 km of NOT maintained gravel road, so potholes. NEED. 4 x 4 to get into town.
Great value for $. The rooms in the new part were big and comfortable and the air conditioning was great. Breakfast included was delicious and it started early which accommodated us for our early morning activities. The pool was awesome and we loved having a big clothesline area for guests to dry our wet clothes!! The hotel met us at the boat and drove us to the hotel which was nice as Drake Bay is all hills which is tricky with luggage. Great restaurant at the hotel and located close to the main road with lots of other restaurants and shops.
Cathy was a perfect hostess. She met us at the beach and arranged for our luggage to be carried up the hill. The tours she arranged for us were excellent. The casita is right in town and an easy walk to many restaurants. Monkeys and birds visited right outside the door.
Cathy provides everything you need including games and umbrellas, coverups for the beach or snorkeling and a hose to rinse off your shoes after your water landing or hike.
The Drake trail is just a few yards away and I enjoyed my walk there.
Great place to stay at drake bay, really close to the best restaurant we found in drake bay by miles (casa el tortugo drakes kitchen) 5 minutes walk to the beach and had a supermarket next door!
Comfortable bed, views of the jungle from the kitchen/sitting area where we spotted a large variety of wildlife, amazing hosts, gave us loads of info of how best to get to drake bay as it’s very remote.
Couldn’t of asked for a better place to base ourselves at drake bay highly recommend to anyone coming to the area.
Emilio and Johnny were fantastic hosts; they organized trips and transport, accommodating early breakfast or dinner when needed (via a nifty whiteboard system). The family style dinners (very tasty) were a nice way to meet fellow guests. Nice open common area with telescope to view birds from the deck. The bungalows are very private with fantastic view and open-air bathrooms. Recommended: the unguided hike from Playa Rincon to Bahia Drake via jungle paths and beautiful beaches.
Fantastic atmosphere at Gitana. We loved our time here and could happily have stayed for longer. We made the most of the private beach, chilled in the garden, and the food at the restaurant was delicious (and we loved spending time with the owners' dogs!). Being able to access tours from the hotel made day trips out seamless as well as the help we received in getting to and from Drake Bay via the boat taxi! We hope to have a chance to come back in the future!
Beautiful setting in trees with nice tropical landscaping that draws in birds of many kinds! From our patio we saw toucan’s, hummingbirds, scarlet rumped tanagers and monkeys! The Drakes Bay trail is easily accessible and it’s a one hour hike to Drake’s Bay and 45 min to beautiful Rio Claro for a fresh water swim! Christian our host helped us with whatever we needed. He is a wonderful resourceful man. He and his wife Virginia are so kind.
We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel Jacamar. The staff was really friendly, helped us with all questions and tour booking and they even picked us up from the beach when the boat from Sierpe left us in Drake (and also took us by car to the boat departing Drake to Sierpe). We had breakfast every day as it was delicious and for a fair price. The room was big and very clean. Many of the best restaurants in town were around the corner.
Drake Bay was our favorite place in all CR! Hotel was great, too - helpful and kind staff, transfer from the ferry to the hotel and back, comfy bed, big and comfortable furnished balcony from where we can enjoy birds and bright nature colours! close proximity to nice bars and restaurants as well as costal hiking trail.
we have as well taken Corcovado tour from the hotel and were very satisfied
The pool, great staff, very good restaurant inside the hotel (and they accept credit card with no extra fee). Petra the owner does a quite amazing job in organising the ferry from Sierpe to Drake Bay and picking you up at the beach. Especially because it is not so easy to get there this is very helpful. And a special thanks goes to the waiter in the hotel restaurant, he was so kind. :)
Really beautiful hotel just up the hill from Drakes Bay. The hotel picked us up from the boat and even gave us an upgrade on our room, which was really comfortable and well equipped with a fantastic view. The pool and seating area are really nice with great views. The hotel was great value for money and we would definitely stay again and opt for the superior room
Really nice hotel with amazing view on the ocean. The breakfast was delicious and served on a balcony in front of the sea. The staff was really helpful and especially Abel who helped us all along with restaurant recommendations, luggage, and booking snorkeling, diving and Corcovado tours. I highly recommend and thanks Las Cotingas for this unique stay!
A very good place in drake bay. The family who owned this hotel are such a great and nice people. They helped with everything I needed . The mother also waited for me to come with the boat from sierpe and took me to the hotel .
Tha location is perfect - 5 min walk from everything- restaurants and supermarket, and 10 min walk from the beach .
This place is just opened... Only 20 something days. The owners are very nice and help us in every way. The view is astonished.. Drake Bay so beautiful with the sunset... It is very simple but with an atmosphere wonderful.. We were family with all the guests... We really enjoyed our stay
Nicely located on a hillside overlooking Drake Bay. Quiet and peaceful location. Great terrace and outlook to watch sunsets and wildlife in the early morning. Very friendly and supportive staff. Relaxed vibe. Close to beach for the twice daily swim!
Rooms were cleaned every day, beautiful location close to beach, has a/c and fridge in suite, staff super friendly and helpful, about a 10 min drive into drake bay.
Recommend petting their adorable dogs and cat… worth it.
The location, the staff, the food, and the facility were all wonderful. We could not recommend this hotel more highly. Additionally, the guides for the various tours were also very good.
