My top pick for a stay in Jaffna is undoubtedly North Gate Jaffna. We, a group of six, stayed for just over a week, booking a suite and a deluxe twin room. Upon arrival, we were greeted with welcome drinks and a friendly staff team. Gopinath, the front office manager, made sure our experience was comfortable throughout our stay. The hotel excelled in every aspect, from food and entertainment to accommodations. The restaurant offered a diverse menu, ensuring we always had new dishes to try. Room service was both quick and exceptionally friendly, much to my children’s delight. Kajintharan, who deserves a special mention, kept our room spotless daily and amused the kids with multiple towel animals. Having visited several other hotels and restaurants in Jaffna, I can confidently say none compare to North Gate Jaffna. It's the ideal choice for anyone seeking comfort, great food, and entertainment, complete with a well-maintained, sizable swimming pool.

Good location in town but down a quiet steet so no noise issues. Close to some good places to eat (go to the Malayan Cafe) and the bus terminal. A bit of a long walk but still walkable to the fort. Along the way you'll pass through some markets and the public library which is a beautiful old building.
Staff were friendly and there was security outside.
There was a shared lounge area between a couple other rooms where you could make a tea and sit down.
Air con was crispy cold and there was a fan too.
Very clean. Comfortable beds.

Jaffna has always been a lovely place to visit. This time we went to Kayts and saw what was left of the old Fort as well as Hammond Hiel across the water. Went to Point Pedro as well...It was a pity that there was a postbox at the northern most point of Sri Lanka - but no postcards or stamps!!! Seeing flamingos and other migrants across from the causeway to Kayts was a bonus. Food is always great and we would recommend Lavin's for some excellent parathas and paper dosai.

Jaffna was not as I expected .
Jaffna was not as I expected .
Staying where I did you really needed your own transportation.
I tried unsuccessfully to rent a bike ,and was told by Click hire place they were booked out for a few days ,I wondered about this as I hardly saw any other tourists ,and other companies didn’t return calls . Fort was really disappointing compared to Galle ,and they charge admission ! Restaurants recommended by lonely planet good , but Mangos has closed ,the Malaya is very good ,as is Akshatai ,but avoid Green Grass ,it’s horrible ,I couldn’t imagine staying there !
Rio Icecream is really good .

Very different to Colombo and other suburbs, but Jaffna has its own unique vibe. Pretty laid back I would say. The locals are friendly, but communicating with them could be a little challenging unless you spoke Tamil.
Plenty of things to see and many different foods to try.

Its a quiet village with less population.
Its a quiet village with less population. Nice for a quiet getaway. Small and cosy town. Food is good and friendly people. Temples are good to visit too. The trip to Nainativu is unsafe. Boats were overloaded and I was afraid of a stampede because of the crowd. Other than that, everything else was a good experience for me.

Takes two days to travel around all the attractions, first day travel the east from Jaffna town with a rented vehicle which is much cheaper than the other areas. Other day travel nagadeepa and close by locations to Jaffna city.
It was a nice experience around there for the everyone, but must pre plan everything.

Nagadeepa temple and Nagamma kovil was most attracted places to visit in Jaffana along with Jaffna Fort and Library and Museum.
Although the Road to Nagadeepa has to be repaired . The City and Roads are clean and the people are very kind
Lovely good size room with excellent air conditioning which was needed in hot conditions and a fan. Room was spotless.
Outside communal balcony with electric kettle.
Access to shared kitchen and washing ironing facilities.
Property set in nice gardens next to the old park.
Grocery stores shops near by and only 25 walk to dutch fort and town centre but also lots buses at end of the road.
Very friendly staff with good local knowledge and speak good english.
Great place to stay to enjoy the beauty of Jaffna.
Good value for money.
Room was spacious and comfortable. Good bed, good pillows and clean sheets. The AC worked well, hot shower and good bathroom. Clean and comfortable by Western Standards!
Laundry services had our clothes smelling fresh and clean!
Easy walk to bus station and to markets to explore and find restaurants.
Very professional hotel staff, they were attentive and made sure our needs were met!
The balcony is connected to a common outdoor balcony for all the rooms. We didn't use it as we spent most of our days outside anyway!
We really liked Betty’s Cottage and the owners were really nice. They booked our bus from Colombo to Jaffna which was a huge help, and they waited up until 4 am for us to arrive. We had only booked the place for the following night so they charged us half a day. The breakfast offered was fine, nothing to rave about. The WiFi is really good! The hosts are also nice and very dedicated to making sure we got everything we needed.
Miss. Iniyal, the manager, greeted me with a smile and made sure that I got what I actually wanted to get, I mean basically anything which does not necessarily have to be related to the hotel stay. She also was doing house-keeping where she made sure that the room was spotlessly clean. The boss of the place, Mr. Thilak was also kind and managed the place well.
The hotel was a cool relief from the heat of Jaffna. The restaurant served great food, one of the best breakfasts we had in Sti Lanka. The pool (while a little warm) was a nice way to cool down. The room was a great size and very clean and comfortable. Wifi in the hotel was strong. Very close to train station
This was a brilliant homestay hosted by Allan. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and helped us with our coach booking home and places of interest including the brilliant service at the local temple. I cannot seak to highly of this experience. Your are completely at home here in wonderful JAFFNA
Lovely boutique hotel in a central Jaffna location. We were the only guests staying at the time so had the whole property to ourselves, and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and the pool was great.
Mr. Dilan is an amazing host. Amazing people. Always greet you with a smile and so welcoming. Dilan arranged us a tuktuk at a very reasonable price to travel around Jaffna. Calm and quiet place. No disturbance at all. Will visit there again for sure.
Nice place to stay. Near to Jaffna Town. Jaffna style food is very tasty. Nice room to stay. Value of money. Staff was exceptional. Beautiful views, comfortable bed. We loved to stay at Flamingo villa.
The family looking after the property is friendly and helpful. Location is convenient. Gives a home stay feel which is good. The garden and vintage style house gives a nice Jaffna vibe.
A clean, comfortable place run by two lovely brothers. Tony can help with any information you may need and the Sri Lankan breakfast is absolutely delicious. Thank you guys for the stay!
