Ely is a wonderful small town for a few days stay - along the river is excellent on a fine day and a nice pub to have a drink and watch the world go by. Ely Cathedral was magnificent - we have visited many across UK and this is certainly one of the best - Stained Glass exhibition is also worth a visit. Cromwells House and Ely Museum worth a visit if you have time. Ely Cathedral has the Armoury Cafe which we would recommended for lunch. For dinner: The Lamb was excellent with wonderful food at a fair price.

Stayed at a hotel 10 minutes walk into Ely, the weather was extremely windy but we enjoyed the walk. We found quite a few quirly shops plus alll the usual high street shops, a few cafes and few places pto have a tea or coffee. We were surprised that the local carparks were free … what a bonus.
We walked around the cathedral and were amazed at the beauty of this truly amazing stricture.
We can recommend the Minster Arms for an evening meal, where they offer good food and ample servings.
We only stayed for a day and night but there will definately be another return visit to Ely

We loved the cathedral, which was at its most mystical when we visited in December. We attended two fantastic events in the cathedral during our stay – but needed a mulled wine afterwards to warm us up!
Another high point was the Farmers' market, which had all sorts of tempting foodstuffs on offer.

Loved the cathedral and the purpose of the visit was to see a performance of Dickens “A Christmas Carol” in the evening at the cathedral. A lovely way to start Christmas. A very good production of professional actors. Also went to the market and High Street and Oliver Cromwell’s house. All very interesting and enjoyable. Great pubs, good beer and food within walking distance.

Beautiful town, great variety of small shops.
Beautiful town, great variety of small shops. Very pretty down near the river with the canal boats. Stopped off in the morning at the Almonry Tea Rooms right next to the Cathedral, for great cheese scone and coffee. Great photos to be had of the cathedral from the gardens at the back of Tea Rooms. Had a tasty carvery at the Riverside Bar and Kitchen overlooking the river. Every where very well signposted. Found our way easily to the railway station, when we travelled to Cambridge for the day.
Lovely walk through Cherry Hill Park on the way. Sun shining on Cathedral made great photos! A little bit sad that they charged £10 to get into the cathedral. I think a voluntary donation would have been more appropriate to make a magnificent building accessible to all in these tough times.
The Boathouse is maintained immaculately and it even has a large private garden as a bonus. The hosts provide all essentials including a bottle of milk, tea/coffee, jams, microwave, iron etc. The property is larger than the photographs portray and is stylishly presented providing for a relaxing and homely stay. A car is essential as the property is in a countryside location. I would definitely recommend this property especially if you are looking for somewhere to relax in peace and quiet.
The hotel itself was as it says 5* in every way. It was immaculate in decor throughout, the room was bright with everything you needed. The hotel grounds were outstanding and the staff were all so friendly and could not do enough for you. We ate in the restaurant for our breakfast and evening meal, which again was absolutely delicious. We loved it so much we have booked again for our anniversary.
The location, the food and the room was exceptional !!
Very peaceful and comfortable
The Room was immaculately clean and well presented with a great balcony looking over the river.
Bathroom is probably the best bathroom I’ve had in a hotel.
Food was fantastic
And the service was perfect couldn’t be more helpful and friendly.
A hidden gem I will definitely return.
Castle Lodge was a basic hotel in a good location in Ely. It wasn't a great hotel, but the process reflected that. You get what you pay for and I have no complaints. Would happily go again. If you don't want to spend a lot and you're OK with just the basics, Castle Lodge is just fine.
Great alternative to a hotel, especially if you want to self-cater. The location in the centre of Ely is also good if that is what you need, but also close to a public car park if you need to do business in the area and are there with a car.
Location brilliant, free car parking 5 mins away & lots of places to eat & drink right on the doorstep. 1st rate cleanliness, plenty of space & lovely design. Communication & information was very good - Would definitely stay again
booked 5 rooms night before the wedding for groom and all the boys.communication with hotel before hand was excellent. carried out all our request. Jordan was very helpful.
hotel was lovely and staff helpful.
Excellent location for our visit to Ely. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Continental breakfast was very good. We would like to come again some time
The hotel itself was very pleasant, staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was largely quiet as I had a stable room away from the main building. Shower was powerful and hot.
Apartment was lovely, very clean and comfy, had everything you needed Inc Netflix! Will definitely come back. Owner was really nice and even offered to drop us at the station.
Quaint old building with easy access to the town of Ely. Housekeeper Jose is amazing! Robert is great! Cooked a full English breakfast for us! Luggage stored for the day too!
