Beautiful ancient historic hill town overlooking the plains of Umbria. Busy with tourists during the day, but quiet at night, with lots of great eateries. Lots of slopes and steps in this walled town!!
Todi is a wonderful centre for a holiday in Umbria. It is interesting in its own right, not spoiled by an excessive number of tourist shops and still feels like a working historic town. It is also well situated to visit other sites such as Orvieto, Assisi and Spoleto.
Charming city with stunning views of the Umbrian hillside. The Basilica is at the top of a hill, so be prepared for lots of walking when you plan your trip. At night the streets and building are well lit and lots of restaurants open. Perfect time for a stroll and some sightseeing with fewer crowds.
A most lovely Umbrian town to visit, we will definitely return in the near future, possibly stay longer.
Norcia is a beautiful town in the Umbria region of Italy. Sadly, the town was devastated by the earthquake of 2016. They have slowly recovered but still needs help in infrastructure and generating income for the town.I would encourage travelers to visit Norcia to bring in some much needed income to the area as a way of helping the town recover from the disaster.
Assisi is one of the most beautiful cities in Umbria region, the restaurants are very good, If you like walking it’s great to walk around town and visit Rocca Maggiore, the view from Piazza Santa Ciara is beautiful and make sure you stay there for more than a day as you will find that there is a lot of places to visit and one day is not enough.
Assisi is a really lovely Umbrian town, famous for its connection to St Francis and St Clare but apart from these religious sites it is a delightful place to stay and visit nearby towns. It's easy to get around on foot and by car even if the streets are very narrow and winding. Many tourists are great walkers so it's a good place to be for walking holidays. Umbrain cuisine is very good, not to be missed are the porchetta sandwiches.
Spoleto is an enchanting town in the Umbrian hills. A real hidden gem. Beautiful cobbled streets, top class restaurants and great wine everywhere. There is a large aqueduct in spoleto which is set in the middle of stunning green Umbrian hills and trees. Full of little piazzas, it is an absolute treat to walk around, fell in love with this town! We ate at Tempio Del gusto and Apollinare both top quality restaurants with delicious and original menus such as pastas with truffle and asparagus. Recommend trying Umbrian wine whilst here such as wine from montefalco.
Perugia is a beautiful historic town away from the regular Italian tourist map. It has a rich culture and Umbria is an amazing region.
Spoleto
Perfect location to the city center as well as to very local stores outside the wall. The room is spacious, clean and well-maintained. The parking, which is next to the room, is available for free. Strongly recommend this apartment even for a family with small children. For international travelers: Spoleto is a hidden gem in Umbria. Since Spoleto is not a city relies sorely on tourism, you can find historical aspects of Italy and at the same time the normal life of Italian people.
Great location in center of historic city and very close to major sites and lots of restaurants. Hotel has lots of charm as the building is very old. Rooms are quant and smallish. Breakfast is very good, however only cold choices. From Perugia Central train station, take either bus or mini-metro (our favorite) to historic city center and then hotel is then just a few minutes walk. Using mini-metro between hotel and train station allowed us to explore other cities in Umbria
If you are planning to visit Umbria, Italy or just going on vacation, visit Leonardo at Torre Palombarra, it is a real treat! This amazing small get away in the hills of Umbria is an excellent place to relax and explore. We spent five days in Leonardos hospitality, but we could literally have stayed for months. Leonardo and family with staff are the friendliest and most welcoming I have ever met, and are leading examples for future reference. Thank you for our visit!
Pietrafitta
We were travelling from Norway for a family vacation in Italy, exploring the amazing Umbria. We stayed in Abbazia for two nights, and regret that we didn't book more. The atmosphere is fantastic, very calm and relaxing. We really enjoyed the slow mornings dedicated to reading and painting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Abbazia has a fantastic restaurant (when opened) with great food and atmosphere. We really would love to come back one day.
Cannara
Daniella is an attentive and gracious host, she made us feel welcome the instant we arrived. Her thoughtful design and inclusion of fun details were a treat. The apartment is spacious and breakfast is fantastic. SeiPetali is truly a slice of heaven in Umbria, the green beating heart of Italy. If the quarter mile drive with billion dollar views does not resonate with your soul, you should see a physician... Ciao e grazie mille!
Santa Maria degli Angeli, Assisi
A truly lovely and friendly family-run hotel a few minutes walk from both the Basilica and the train station. My single room backed onto a sunlit terrace, included all conveniences, and was a welcome refuge after excess sightseeing. The restaurant downstairs offered hearty Umbrian cuisine and a wonderful vegetable soup. I found Francesco and the family very warm and ready to help me with any needs. The price is nice, as well.
Amelia
I visit this wondrous palazzo time and time again. It is the essence of Italy - Timeless design, well thought out comfort, walkable location, warm and welcoming staff. Patrizia, the owner, is a beautiful force of nature, greeting guests personally, provisioning the linen cupboards with exquisite vintage pieces, and filling the rooms with tasteful and cozy furnishings. This property is a must on your visit to Umbria.
The city center of Perugia is an interesting place with all of the quirks of being a modern city within medieval walls. The Hotel Umbria is part of that charm being hidden within the backstreets of the city center. It is perfectly placed to enjoy the history of Perugia. The staff gave great recommendations on sights and restaurants. Convenient to the train station via the minimetro. Would gladly stay there again.
Foligno
Eleonora is an incredible host. All the details you can think of will be adjusted and adapted according to your needs and circumstances. Great location just a few steps away from the beautiful centre of Foligno, le stanze di Angelina is an ideal stay to appreciate all the beauties the region of Umbria can offer. When back to this amazing part of Italy, we have no doubt where to stay again. See you soon Eleonora!🙂
Perugia
I had a wonderful experience at this property 15 years ago and was excited to return, and glad that I did. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen them and updated bathroom, with lovely views. The location is perfect for visiting other towns, which can be reached in about 30 minutes in any direction. We stayed for 9 days and could have used a few more days. The Umbrian region is underrated.
Restaurant was excellent for dinner and breakfast in terms of food, service and wondeful terrace views over Umbrian countryside towards Perugia. The hotel interior and the gardens all lent themselves to a wonderfully relaxed stay with plenty of room to roam, and endless tranquil seating spots in the shade and sun to read and relax. All of the staff were welcoming, considerate and raised the mood.
Panicale
It was a great stay at Casolare Marconi! Apartment was really spacious, beautifully furnished and fully equipped. The surrounding looked just like in the movies (olive trees and oleanders, view for historical Umbrian towns located on the hills). Owners were super nice and helpful. I recommend stay at Casolare Marconi for both families and group of friends.
The view from our room was so amazing. With the door that opens and a terrace to view the Umbrian countryside, it made the first visit to Assisi wonderful. This is clearly more than a hotel but an upscale experience close to all that Assisi has to offer. The staff at every area were helpful, cheerful and well knowledgeable about the entire area.
This is a very sweet hotel with lots of beautiful outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy--both a shady garden area and an upper balcony with an unbelievable view over the Umbrian countryside. The breakfast was very nice. The location couldn't have been better. The room was a nice size, and the bed was very comfortable.
Standard design spacious hotel rooms with modern comfort in a historic building. Free car park with easy access and night surveillance. Excellent breakfast including local specialties. Friendly staff. Perfect location to visit Assisi and the wider Umbria region. It's also close to railway and bus station.
Orvieto
Beautiful location- Umbrian farmhouse with a view of Orvieto and a 10 minute drive to the town. House is on a farm, but the rooms are comfortable hotel rooms. Lovely hostess Angela, who went out of her way to help arrange side trips during our stay. Comparable to hotels that cost 2-3 times as much.
It was our second stay there, and they kept their standards very high. It is an enchanting place, full of charm and history, with comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and dinner, and a very welcoming staff. We would most gladly return again when visiting Umbria, a special region of Italy.
During our travels around Italy we needed a place to stay for one night and it really is a great find. The Hotel room we got has amazing views over the village and the Umbrian landscape. The host was brilliant and extremely helpful. Will definitely recommend a stay here for a bit of luxury.
Very friendly reception! Also my room had a very nice view over Perugia and the Umbrian hills. The room was not big but enough and perfect for 2 day stay. Breakfast was really delicious. The restaurant is very fine with nice selection of food and wine. So I enjoyed this stay a lot!
Assisi
A wonderful mystical place. If you want to know the real one Italy, settle here. Hospitality hosts, images of nature, olive gardens, peace of mind. Its great to travel to Assisi, Perugia and other Umbria towns. Comfortable stay for family wit children. We hope come back in future.
