Set on Flatey Island in the Breidafjördur Bay, this hotel is a 5-minute walk from the Baldur Ferry Terminal that departs from Stykkishólmur. Flatey Island is one of those places you visit once in a lifetime, if you're lucky. We had the opportunity to visit and we're not dissappointed. The only hotel on the island has a beautiful old world charm to it and the decorating is fitting- as you feel somewhat you are back in time many decades. Upon arriving to the Island hotel staff will greet you to give you directions or even a ride to the hotel (it is about a 10-15 min walk from where the ferry docks). The hallways and rooms are nicely decorated and upkept. The staff called us earlier the same day before our arrival to confirm the number in our party and to be sure they could accommodate our needs. They were very friendly and welcoming upon our arrival. We enjoyed a nice dinner in the restaurant and the included breakfast the next morning exceeded our expectations.

I noticed Breakfast items were refilled as the offerings depleted (I have seen in other hotels a lack of this courtesy ) The room and bathrooms were very clean.

The idea of an outdoor pool, heated by a hot spring, and a smaller hot spring beside it was just a wonderful experience. A major plus was we did not have to pay much, unlike other properties, to use the pool. Breakfast was included in the price and was wonderful. I would recommend the dinner choice where you could sample all the delicious food. I'd love to live there :)
