Beautiful small town. Quiet & friendly. Variety of Restaurants & enough to see to fill a couple of days. Good train links across aquitaine. Small airport which is easily negotiated. Quiet roads so easy driving.
I went to Bordeaux with my mum for holidays. We planned a beach holiday but we couldn't book anything nearby the ocean. Bordeaux turned out a pearl of Aquitaine.Unfortunately we spend there only 4 days, which is definitely not enough. With the local trains all the locations are easy to reach.
Fantastic 18th century architecture, thoroughly cleaned up in the last 20 years or so, combined with modern European elegance and a throbbing, bustling street life and restaurant scene - a third of the population are students. The city is a lot of fun, and if you are into wine the possibilities are endless. The tram makes it easy to get around. Nice museums (Musee des Beaux-Artes, Musee d'Aquitaine), and I resolved to come back when the externally impressive theatre is in season.
It was extremely hot when we were there, and people were sitting in the Mirroir d'Eau to take the edge off it. The evening view when they turn the lights on to be reflected in the Mirroir is pure magic and when the sprays come on some people get up and dance in them. The Musee d'Aquitaine is absolutely one of the best and must not be missed! The trams are very convenient and frequent.
An excellent city to visit for shopping, if you are ridiculously wealthy. I got away with 2 pairs of shoes for Madame at prices reduced from outer space to the lower stratosphere. Best visits were the guided walking tour (bi-lingual), Musée des Arts Decoratifs and, above all Musée d'Aquitaine. Slightly disappointing was guided tour of Grand Theatre - French only, not always audible, no visit backstage. Many good restaurants, not all expensive. Our best was "Ô de l'Ha", recommended by Rémi of "Une Chambre en Ville". Once you know the ropes, the trams were great but there's still a fair bit of walking - enormous numbers of people out in the evening! A number of streets are closed on the 1st Sunday of month - getting away from the centre was interesting...
Loved this beautiful city. The buildings, restaurants, wine bars and shops. The trams were a great way to get around & very numerous & reliable. Loved the Musee de Aquitaine, Bar à Vin, Le Plat à Orreilles & Fifty-Fifty, depot-vente luxe, recherche Hermès, Vuitton, Chanel...... Will look forward to visiting again. From Australia, living in France for a year.
Bordeaux is truly stunning. A lovely place to walk around, relax and see the sights. Some of the activities, such as the wine tours and Cite du Vin were a little expensive for a family on a budget. However, the public transport was a bargain! My children loved the Miroir D'eau and the river taxi. They thought the Musee d'Aquitaine was OK, but it wasn't aimed at children. The flea market and food market are well worth a visit with lots to see and taste and smell! There are lots of great restaurants and cafes. It is a great place to practice speaking french as most people do speak English if you get stuck.
It is an easy city to walk around and the tram system is so easy to use as well. The buildings are typically French and look beautiful lit up at night along the river. The river (although brown) is very wide. It doesn't take long to get out to the wineries and there are plenty of bus tours you can do. We took a train to St Emilion for the day and a local bus to Cadillac. The Museum of Aquitaine shows items from ancient times to the present that have been uncovered in the region and show Bordeaux's transition from Roman city to today. I also appreciated the suffering of the locals during the German occupation of Bordeaux put together so well in the Centre Nationale Jean Moulin. There are plenty of bars and restaurants.
Bordeaux is a gem of a city, particularly if you like exploring the built environment and its history, and enjoy good food. It's a compact city, walkable but with a good tram network. There is a wide choice of restaurants to suit most tastes, particularly meat eaters. Customs museum in Place de la Bourse quirky and recommended, as is Museum of Aquitaine. Recommend a vinyard tour if you like wine: we went to St Emilion with Bordovino who we thought were very good.
Bordeaux is a great place to visit, only a 75 minute flight from London. We took a taxi to the city centre for 45 Euros. Once there, we used the fantastic tram system! Being pedestrianised, the city centre is a wonderful place to stroll around. It has everything, beautiful architecture, fantastic shops, lovely bistros and cafes. Other venues worth seeing are the Cite du Vin (a must) and the wonderful Aquitaine Museum, great displays and interesting for young and old. There is so much more than the above. A great place to explore. Oh yes, we found the locals extremely friendly!!!
Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains
We enjoyed our return visit to Vieux Boucau and residence d'Aquitaine. The host Muriel was very welcoming and helpful throughout the stay. This time we had a downstairs apartment and it had some benefits as well, as coming and going was very convenient. We enjoyed very much the large balcony with the outdoor grill. The location and the setting of the apartments is wonderful.
I have been lucky enough to stay at the hotel before, but I simply loved its revamp! Barefoot, relaxed, simplicity all backed by wonderful staff and a location which, to me, is simply the most beautiful in the World.
Great location, very helpful hotel staff, excellent breakfast, great room with balcony and sea view, and a dedicated controlled entry car park.
Zero stairs from the entrance to the room: 1,2,7&8 share that feature. The staff managed to transform a hotel that usually had a beach feel to a cozy holiday chalet virtually overnight. Breakfast (13€) featured excellent gâteau basque cerise and brebis cheese. Solid dinner choices were but a short walk away.
Services, piscines, situation.
beautiful, elegant, beautiful location
Excellent location. Near to everything. I got a room upgrade upon arrival. The room/apt was spacious, spotless and well equipped, with all the necessaries in the kitchen and even a dish washer. Especially warm and helpful staffs at reception, Sebastian and other staffs speak perfect English and are always ready to give suggestions and help. Thank you very much and hope to come back soon!
Everything is beautiful and perfect ! Little paradise in martillac surrounded with winery and forest ! Beautiful property , food , facility ! Everything is perfect ! Def will come back here and stay longer 😍
The location was fantastic right in front of the sea in front of the main promenade. Our room was amazing with a huge balcony an sun loungers overlooking the pool with an amazing view of Hondarriba in the distance. The beds were comfortable and the room had everything we needed. We did not eat in the hotel as we decided to get a water taxi for €2.30 each across to Hondarriba which was buzzing with atmosphere and plenty of gastronomical delights to choose from. We really enjoyed the Thalassotherapy pool which was included in our room price. This was amazing. Unfortunately we didn’t have as long as we wanted here as the hotel receptionist on the morning of departure could strangely only organise our taxi for a certain early time although we requested it after check our time so we could fully avail of the Thalassotherapy pool. We thought that she could have been a bit more helpful as the staff on the previous day were extremely nice and understanding and helpful. The hotel breakfast buffet breakfast was quite pricey for us, even the cheaper option of the coffee/croissant was €8 but there are plenty of cafes nearby to choose from. Overall we had a fantastic stay.
Fantastic resort like location with views, impeccable facilities and excellent staff.
Gorgeous bar/restaurant with funky comfortable rooms. Fantastic staff and spotlessly clean. The food and ambiance was excellent.
The staff was exceptionally helpful. The quality of the venue exceeded expectations
Such personal attention, incredible service.
good people, the location was great too.
very charming and relaxing place nestled in the middle of a pine forest , ideally located few kilometers away for the ocean
The wooden chalets were spaced apart enough to give you the feel of being in the forest. The chalet was perfectly adequate for two people. There was sleeping accommodation for four people but it would have felt overcrowded with four people.
The facilities were great and the staff was friendly. I choose our bungalow without bathroom by error and they help us and moved to another bungalow more comfortable without extra charge. Amazing staff considering my mistake choosing the bungalow.
Location, facilities, cleanliness
