The people were really friendly everywhere we went. The Museum of Human Rights. The Royal Manitoba Theatre and the production of Bitter Girl The Musical. Stella's restaurant on the University of Winnipeg campus. Bluefish for sushi. We took cabs almost everywhere as I was travelling with my 84 year old mother. Cabs were reasonably priced.
We always enjoy coming out to Brandon for the Manitoba Royal Winter Fair. We witnessed some great shows and had a few treats. It is a fun spring break excursion with lots for kids of all ages to do.
Surprised me as an interesting City. Old and mixture of new. My favorite Old Boniface French Quarter. Graveyard, Cathedral etc. The Human Rights Museum,Manitoba Museum, Railway Museum and Mint. Spent hours in Forks area Market, 3 routes around City on free buses. Lots to do ZOO , gardens and the Exchange financial area etc
I visited the Manitoba Legislature, but would recommend the official guided tour if you want to learn about all the symbolism of the building as well as see the Legislative Assembly itself. The self-guide pamphlet is good, but cannot give all the information of a guided tour. The Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature is a remarkable combination of a natural history museum and a museum of the human history of Manitoba. The national Canadian Museum of Human Rights has the particularly useful feature of docents available throughout the galleries for questions and comments (but the stone from Runnymede, given by the Queen, is hidden away in the group entrance lobby, not at the principal entrance (the architect, I was told, did not like corners, so there was no cornerstone to place it in!)). Churches are locked outside service time, including the new church built into the ruins of St Boniface Cathedral. The maps at transit stops allow a visitor to figure out what buses go where, and the senior fare is $2.20.
Great Museum. The Forks is a great place to visit and the Exchange District is an interesting place to visit. Downtown can be uncomfortable at times because of criminal activity. Assiniboine Park is a very large green space including a zoo with a good exhibition of Manitoba's animals.
Really friendly city. I was there for a music conference at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Awesome folks there. Heard the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra with Count Basie band leader Scotty Barnhart - yes! Winnipeg is the real deal for music. Also, if you have time: Check out the St.Vital Mall, great shops. Ate at the Lemon Tree, Double D's Cheesecake, and Sushi N. Great little gems. So many good places to eat. Getting around the city if you don't know it can be confusing, so plan your route.
Great to experience the more northern parts of Manitoba and see the local community. Very cold in November so make sure you have the correct winter gear when you go. Unfortunately the rail link to Winnipeg was out of service so we had to fly both days and stay longer in the town when we only had 1 day planned for polar bear tours. We were there the last week of the polar bear tours and it turned out to be too late - with the early freeze this year the polar bear sightings that week were very low. Our tour did not see any at all. Churchill is very small so easily walkable albeit very cold. Tundra inn and pub is very good for food and a beer. Lazy Bear is good for food too and has a great restaurant area with cozy feel.
It’s not called “friendly Manitoba” for nothing, the capital of the province being proof of that. Pleasant and not only culturally diverse, but also architecturally. A plethora of dining options and not touristy.
Great museums, museum of Human Rights, St Boniface, Art Gallery, Foodat the Forks market. Free bus to get around, helpful people wherever we went. Will e even better when Manitoba museum has been updated and new Inuit art museum opens in 2020
Very short visit on our part so can't offer much of an opinion. Went to the forks area and walked part of the river trail to the legislative building, then downtown. Getting out of downtown to the outskirts where our hotel was booked and the show Cavalia was situated was a bit of a nightmare due to heavy traffic already by 4pm. Winnipeg would benefit from a rapid transit system perhaps? Cudos to the ladies at the tourism centre at the Ontario/Manitoba border. They were extremely knowledgable, telling us about points of interest in Winnipeg, suggested events and hotels near the venues.
We drive from Calgary to Winnipeg and they let us check in one hour early(no charge)and The bed is very comfy and smells great, same with the room no odd smell.also, the parking is pretty safe too,the hotel’s location is very close to university of Manitoba, restaurants, groceries and fast food.we loved it.we will definitely come back here and recommend this hotel to our friends who plans to visit Winnipeg.
Hotel was in a great location, rooms were clean and comfortable. We didn’t stay for the continental breakfast because we were running in the Manitoba marathon but we appreciated the hotel offering an earlier light breakfast for the runners.
Clean and spacious apartment close to the Forks, Manitoba Museum and downtown. Bright, sunny room on a surprisingly quiet street and secure parking lot.
Grwat hotel...pool is ideal for kids
The staff were very helpful. Clean & quiet.
My money was stolen at restaurants by the waitress
I was awsome, staff was good, clean and pocket friendly
We stayed in the main hotel and found it’s comfortable
I like large hotels with entertainment facilities
Breakfast was great, there us a nice restaurant attached to the hotel.
Location was perfect and very affordable
We love everything about the hotel!
Food good. Loved all the stores for shopping. Enjoyed Gimli Glider.
The room was very clean. We had heard that the Norvilla had a bit of a bad reputation for noise and uncleanliness, but we didn't find any of that during our stay. The staff were also very helpful. We would have no hesitancy in staying there again.
