Pretty good breakfast, decent shared kitchen with an impressive spice rack, stable wi-fi. All that, however, is just facilities. What truly makes the property stand apart are the staff and especially its manager, with his insights into local culture, support, and warmth. The fact that the building also houses a local NGO makes the place even more dynamic and provides opportunities for some interesting conversations.

Gaudys Hotel is located 8 minutes’ walk from La Sabana Metropolitan Park and 2 km from San José City Centre. Free WiFi access is available in public areas. I really liked this place. It had a handful of nooks and crannies that you could chill in, as well as some comfy hammocks. If you prefer to socialize, there’s some common spaces as well. In general, the place was aesthetically pleasing, as well as functional. I felt safe being here as a solo female traveler. I also liked that the reception was 24/7, especially because I had to check out at 5am.
