We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
Really had a lovely stay, the place is very picturesque, and incredibly quiet. The bird life is abundant due to the pretty farm dam. there are a few minor things that could be improved, but these are really minor and definitely don't detract from the great time we had. The owners were also very accommodating with a later check out, which we really appreciated. The beds are comfortable, the linen clean and fresh. I would definitely come back!
The room is huge and has all amenities that you need to cook. Also there is a gas stove so you can still cook during load shedding and a generator that works as well during load shedding. Shower is always hot. Safe area and helpful staff. Good place to stay if you want to visit Marloth Park. I walked there in 20 mins. Highly recommend a stayover in Swellendam to see museum and take in beauty of mountains.
Wonderful hotel in a 200 year old Dutch farm. Beautiful surroundings, very tasteful furnishings and a relaxing atmosphere. We had a fantastic room/suite all by ourselves, which was absolutely magnificent and extremely comfortable. Wonderful breakfast with a chef who prepares the most delicious food. This place will make you relax and lose all stress and thoughts of home… Absolute tóp hotel!
A very well run establishment. We had a great room with a nice en suite. Peaceful gardens by a small river, and a nice decked area around the pool for sunbathing. Located in a quiet road a 5 minute walk to a number of restaurants, and an easy walk to Swellendam High Street. Ample breakfast with a good choice and v friendly staff.
excellent location, beautiful views of the mountains and a farm stay quiet feel but close enough to town to pop in for dinner
loved the owners dog Daisy that visited us and swam in the dam
I could bring my Yorkie for a minimal fee !
It’s a sweet little house with everything you need for a short stay.
This was the most beautiful hotel of our holiday, wonderful room, very nice and spacious layout, opening onto the pool, perfect. It came with the most beautiful bathroom with huge walk-in shower, everything very stylish. very good breakfast. Can only recommend staying there Very friendly owners.
Room was very nice with everything required for self catering. Clean, with decent shower, toilet & vanity. Nice kitchen with fridge and wash basin, etc. Outdoor Braam area should you have required it. Staff were helpful with suggestions of restaurants to eat at and places to visit.
This hotel is a gem. It is located a the outskirts of Swellendam near some restaurants in two historic early 19th century buildings. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden with springboks and a zebra. There is a small pool. A great breakfast is served. All is very clean.
The view and location - this is a very beautiful farm with a great mountain view. Being directly next to the field where the cows graze was very relaxing. The facilities were neat and provided all that you needed. The cozy fireplace that doubles as a braai area.
Excellently clean,situated in nature,farm life
Communal kitchen all you need.Fridge in room.Premises clean and neat.deck back and front with scenic nature views.good value for money compare to other places in Swellendam
From parting the stunning daybreak mist on the Breëde River surface to anchoring in paradise where the birdsong and sound of raising fish fill your houseboat cabin once dusk peacefully descends – a must for tired souls!
An exceptional and well maintained guesthouse, with an exceptional service minded staff and an excellent chef. Swellendam and the surrounding areas have much to offer any kind of visitors. A place to return to.
I like the view of the dam, the rolling green hills, and the mountains. I liked the look of the cottage, how cozy it felt, and how clean it was. I also liked that they provided a functional kitchen.
