Small town.
Small town. No Grab service in Chau Doc. went to Tra Su cajuput forest by Taxi, in a remote area and hard to get transportation to the forest, taxi driver waited ( I didn't ask him to wait) he wanted to make more money with the return to town trip. Basically it does not have the necessary public infrastructure to support tourists.

Chau Doc is visited mainly by tourists crossing the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. Other than a few hotel, there's not a lot to see. Although it's a nice little town with nice street food.

There is so many things to see in An Giang around Chau Doc: Sam mountain, Cam mountain, Tapa fields, lake at Tri Ton, temples and pagodas, Bung Binh Tien but my favorite was Tra Su Melaleuca forest. And of course the city of Chau Doc including some beautiful Muslim temples and a small floating market as well.

Central downtown Chau Doc is really hard to get around if you enjoy walking. Can Tho had good walking promenades and the town was OK for an avid pedestrian. Not so for Chau Doc which is overrun by motorbikes with limited walking areas, aside from the area near the river. Smelt more polluted than other places I've visited too as the streets in the downtown area are quite narrow and there's so many bikers. We stayed two nights. I'd recommend staying for one and heading straight out to the bird sanctuary and Sam Mountains which were really lovely and interesting - but lower your expectations of the town itself.

The river is great - life goes on there and watching the boats is interesting and calming, the temple end however is absolute chaos as 'pilgrims' are on a mission to spend what appears to be a very small amount of time to do their business. Cooked pigs seem to be the big bucks donation. Not exactly the equivalent of say a European Cathedral which offers peace and sanctuary, this is congested high energy and crassly commercial. As an experience it is worth it, but of course, not all experiences are that pleasant.....

Visiting Chau Doc?
Visiting Chau Doc? A walk through the markets and along the river bank is essential. Take a tour on the back of a motor bike to visit the Tra Su bird sanctuary, riding along the edge of the canal, past rice paddies, crossing the canal over old narrow bridges and paths with overhanging trees - sites you won't experience in a car or bus. Stop and tour the Cavern Pagoda - this Pagoda is amazing with great views back across the countryside. Take a ride to the top of Sam Mountain. You'll need a couple of nights to see the best of Chau Doc.
Well located in the centre of Chau Doc. Very good value for money. Bakery next door that opens very early in the morning and can provide basic breakfast. Comfortable room, basic but very clean. Really nice lobby area. The best thing is the family who own it, they are so lovely and helpful. The daughter speaks flawless English. They helped us to book the ferry to Cambodia.
Great no frills place to stay. They do not serve breakfast now which was a bit of a hassle (because I didn't know before I got there and in the past they did) but otherwise for an inexpensive ..lovely place to stay in Chau Doc this is the best. Very close to the river and stores. Would stay there again for sure! Lovely owner who has been around the world!
The hotel has a great view of the sunset over Núi Sam (Buddhist holy mountain). Chau Doc is a lovely non touristy Vietnamese town and a good launch point for catching the ferry to Cambodia. The ferry stop is a 600m walk from the hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The shower had great pressure and the room was quiet.
The Paris Hotel in Chau Doc is very centrally located, new and very-well managed.
Right from the start till the our departure we felt very welcomed. Each of our requested trips and tickets were arranged so that we could fully enjoy our stay.
We appreciate all work done and wish you all the best for the future and your hotel!
The lady at reception was so helpful in planning a trip out to the Tru Sa forest and Sam Mountain and our onward travel amongst other things. She helped us make our transition from Cambodian to Vietnam smooth by organising sim cards shopping to exchanging money. Thank you, a weight off our minds.
The location was perfect for us. The owner was just wonderful, so helpful. The facilities were everything we needed for our stay, very comfortable. Beds and pillows were also very comfortable. The rooftop garden was beautiful and loved all the old photos on the walls. Must stay in chau Doc.
The room was comfortable. There are a number of options to have local food nearby. The receptionist was nice and helpful. You can rent motorbikes for 150K per day.
But attention: as the property is located inside the border area, non-Vietnamese are not allowed to stay.
The hotel is stunning, a gem in Vietnam to disconnect and enjoy the country. The staff has been helpful from the moment we made the reservation to the checkout. The service is truly outstanding, ensuring all you needs are answered.
I was only one night in this hotel and for one night everything was comfortable. I arrived late in the evening and the staff waited for me, they also gave me water and took care of my motorcycle, thank them very much for that.
Everything went well. There is an elevator. It is a 15 minutes walk from the Victoria Hotel / Hang Chau ferry to Phnom Penh and 5 minutes to the market. There are Vietnamese cuisine restaurants and cafés close-by.
Staff were excellent and very caring. Food was well made and tasty. Setting was spectacular and a peaceful respite from the intensity of Vietnam. Management obviously cares about customers and staff.
Fabulous comfortable room, beautiful views and great staff, such a shame we were only here a night. also recommend the hotels private boat up the Mekong into Cambodia, excellent service.
I like its location, it's close to the city center and easy to access The Lady Temple. It's not the greatest place but suitable for those who want to discover Chau Doc with low budget.
