Being surprised!
For starters, the onsite restaurant was excellent. Our wait staff was someone I would want to hire if I ran a restaurant! She represented herself, the restaurant and the kitchen with professional class and friendliness. (And I regret that I forget her name - but she more than earned her tip!)
The room? It was comfortable and very sufficient for our needs. And the bed: I booked this hotel for reviews of the hotel's beds, as my wife doesn't usually sleep well on any hotel bed. Not Paradox: she slept very well and very comfortably. ("Maybe WE should get a bed like this one??" she commented.)

Surfin’ USA in Bohemian CA
Santa Cruz was surf central California long before the Beach Boys sang about it. The Surfing Museum in the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse tells stories of those who have braved some of the world’s best waves.
Overlooking the ocean rollers are the Coconut Grove Ballroom and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - the oldest amusement park in the state of CA, and the last original one on the West Coast. Its historic carousel, rollercoasters and rides are a colourful backdrop to Cowell’s Beach, best viewed from the Sky Glider cable cars.
Jutting into Monterey Bay is the wharf where sea lions bask and pelicans decide on their next meal. Seafood restaurants are abundant here and the bars provide lively nightlife. Pacific Avenue is the main shopping area and one street away is the Museum of Art & History.
Unsurprisingly for a surfer hotspot, the city has a liberal outlook and is known for political activism - a far cry from the era when the Santa Cruz Mission was established. The mission is now a state park alongside Natural Bridges Beach and the Big Basin Redwoods in forested hills behind the city, home to the gravity-defying Mystery Spot.

I believe the hotel is a nice location to stay, they might consider getting better maintanance, and cleaning help, some one that can speak english, to better help the guest. Jessica, was very polite, and tried to help as much as possible. There were just a lot of little things, they could have been prevented, especially when you pay the high price charged there. When booking, I thought I was booking direct with the property, never knew bookings, com, jumped in to the equasion. So when I asked if they honored AAA, or AARP discounts, they said no because our room was booked by a third party. Also asked for room with 2 queens, was told they were sold out, which forced us to book 2 seperate rooms, after arriveing, found out they had suites for four people. I think this was a money thing, for bookings.com

The location was the best! The stairs are a lot of work if you have issues. I can't believe the Boardwalk is closed on fridays! If you are planning a friday night adventure at the boardwalk you will need to find something else to do.

Santa Cruz gets sleazy fast (a lot of justly disaffected youth manifesting the consequences of a tattered social fabric & like), but the near-perfect climate year-round, the surrounding (2nd or 3rd growth, but still....) redwoods, challenging cols (lots of category 2s & 1s), vast fields of agriculture (it is delightful to cycle through the fields on what amount to ruelles; these areas are intensely redolent of earth, manure & whatever is being cultivated, plus it makes one appreciate just how back-breaking is the labor that goes into producing one's strawberries & artichokes & like) & vegan eating options (especially the bakeries) make any visit worthwhile, especially if you're from an area that does not have that year-round ideal climate. I recommend cycling up SkyLine or HighLand or Empire Grade or getting out in the fields toward MonteRey. Country roads are nearly uniformly narrow, but traffic is mostly light (minus HighWay 9) & drivers generally courteous (again, minus HighWay 9). Santa Cruz even has the mark of any good location -- a nearby Grocery Outlet -- which, due to its location on the edge of town (it may actually be in Soquel), is easy to integrate into the end of a ride for some yummy and cheap vegan delights =)

A small treasure and throw-back to a different era: the Boardwalk on the beach, opened in 1907, with a roller coaster and carousel from near that time frame, the tradition & history of the surfing venue, the old (but renovated) motels along the beachfront, and the labyrinth of mid-century housing, some refreshed, some not, make this a worthwhile visit! There are lovely walks along the pier, where sea lions sun themselves, along the coast, where surfers wait for the perfect wave, and along the trails city streets, festive with many cultures represented.
Perfect location for accessing all the fun activities in Santa Cruz! Jane is such a sweet lady! She is so friendly and takes the time to walk the property with you and explain what all is around to do. She truly cares about her guests stay and their comfort. The hotel is a cute little vintage motel stay, very clean rooms with a “comfort of home” feel. We will definitely be back!
We love hearing the waves all night and easy access to the beach. Also love that the pool and spa are basically on the beach. The location is great and the rooms are always clean and comfy. It's great being able to walk to the Boardwalk, the wharf and Westcliff Drive. Just a 2 mile drive to downtown. Parking is nice and easy too. Can't beat the views!!!
I thought the rooms and the hotel was super cute and unique and a great value for what you pay! I didn’t get to try out the pool but the tub in the room was big enough to feel like a jacquzzi! it felt like a little bed and breakfast without the breakfast but easy access to everything Santa Cruz offers walking distance away~
I loved how clean the hotel and the room wer e and that they had a fresh modern feel. The location was convenient in terms of being close to a lot of things we wanted to do at Santa Cruz. Everything was just five ten minutes away. I would definitely chose this hotel again. Cleanliness-wise alone you score 10/10!
The rooms were small but on point. We had a very comfy bed and good a bathroom and shower.
Also the hotel was a walking distance from the Santa Cruz pier and boardwalk which was nice since the place was packed full with visitors.
We also had free parking at the property which was excellent.
The hotel was in a perfect location to Santa Cruz boardwalk. We stayed in a queen suite room which was just remodeled. The room was spotless with nice comfy beds. I highly recommend this hotel. Hopefully we'll be back soon and be able to stay in this hotel again.
I liked the room, it was big compared to other hotels in Santa Cruz. It had a great view of the beach. The staff was nice and friendly. We were able to get in our room a few hours early. It has a nice pool. We will be coming back soon.
Across the street from the boardwalk amusement park. You cannot get any closer. Room was quiet even being so close to boardwalk. Parking is very good and not jambed in like other hotels In area.
Standard 2-star American hotel. Very adequate for a short stay to see Santa Cruz. Breakfast was good. Staff were pleasant. Bed was comfortable. Adequate parking right outside the room.
Very cute and comfy hostel. Nice staff, very clean.
Great location-only a few steps to the wharf, the beach and the downtown. Cute little city Santa Cruz is, just like the hostel.
We liked the architecture of the hotel, a classic 60s Americana motel. The pool area is very nice and the beds were comfortable. We rented bicycles and explored Santa Cruz.
nice building, overlooking Santa Cruz beach. 15 minutes walk downtown or to the lighthouse. Rooms were spacious and the bathroom as well, and breakfast was great.
We drove down to Santa Cruz for Woodies on the Wharf car show and the Pacific Blue inn is walking distance from the Wharf and cheaper, nicer than the guest hotel.
The in-room hot tub is the best in Santa Cruz! Even though the hotel is on the busiest street in town, the room was far enough back to not hear traffic.
