Gatlinburg was a glitzy tourist trap, which we didn’t expect or appreciate. The artist community was a major plus, but the woman at the welcome store was insulting and arrogant, exactly the wrong person for the job.

Gatlinburg is a one strip town of wineries, shineries, and some adventure parks. BUT, it sits on the north end of an absolutely gorgeous national park that is free to enter and explore. Use the free trolley if you can, because all public parking on the strip is $20 one entry and travel on the strip is slow and easily frustrating. The mountain attractions like Ober, Anakeesta, and Skypark are the best parts and definite to-do's. Restaurants are mostly chains and it was difficult to find "local flavor". All the emphasis on booze means you will run into drunken tourists while walking the strip. Stay a week, do some outdoors stuff, explore the Smokies.

I should have done more research on what to do outside of Gatlinburg. The main town was a tourist trap with the chain restaurants and souvenir shops, old time photo shops and taffy candy stores. Parking was between $10-$20 at each lot, and it was crowded for end of April. Aside from the skywalk, I wasn’t too impressed. However driving along rt441 through the Smokies was the biggest highlight of the trip. It’s a stunning location, just find something to do outside the hub.

This was our third time to Gatlinburg for more than one night. One time we camped but we were too far out of town. Last summer and this spring we stayed at an inexpensive hotel in town. We love being able to walk to different restaurants and shops. We liked Crockett's for breakfast but be sure to go early - before 8:30 because there are long lines otherwise. We also enjoyed the Cherokee Grill which does take reservations and the Best Italian cafe and Pizzeria. The pizza was very good New York style pizza. For fine dining, the Greenbriar is off the beaten path and hands down one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant. It is pricey so I wouldn't bring children there. We enjoy the hiking and did a nice hike up Chimney Tops to the lookout. It took us 3.5 hours up and back down. I also highly recommend Cades Cove. If you like biking ,they close the 11 mile loop to cars on Wednesdays. We biked it and saw 11 bear in 11 miles! The free trolley is great for getting around Gatlinburg but can be a long wait and very crowded.
The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The location was very close to downtown Gatlinburg and you could even walk there or there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel if you don't want to pay for parking. Our balcony overlooked the river and there is even a fire pit with some chairs by the river which we did not use. Everything was clean and they serve a hot breakfast and there is a waffle maker. We would definitely stay here again!
Staff were all really friendly and good fun/conversation.
The room was great, spacious and clean.
Bathroom was big with a huge shower.
Balcony had a nice view of the hills behind.
Location is excellent for Gatlinburg and the Smokies.
Clean.
Bed was SO comfortae. I stay in a lot of hotels and this was some of the best sleep I've had in a long time.
I arrived on day one of the down season (by default, not planned that way) and spent a wonderful 4 nights at this accommodation exploring the Smokies. I was so impressed with the quality of the hotel, how quiet it was and the attention from staff. I will definitely stay again when I visit this part of the world (I'm in Tasmania). Thanks team.
Everything! We got a whole apartment to ourselves for cheaper than a hotel! And it was perfect! It has a small but functional kitchen and a living room with a hideaway couch. It is downtown close to the Ober Gatlinburg entrance. We didn't have to pay to park downtown, we just walked. We will definitely stay here again!
great location to see downtown Gatlinburg from! park in their lot and walk to most everything! the hotel was great! very comfortable beds, friendly staff, great breakfast….we sat on our balcony and watched the chair lift go up and down the mountain! I highly recommend this beautiful historical hotel!
The hotel was clean, staff friendly. Big spacious rooms with a wonderful balcony. The location was perfect. Our favorite place to stay. Just a short walk to all the sites of downtown Gatlinburg. The beds were comfortable and clean. Overall another super stay. We highly recommend!
Perfect location. Was able to walk to downtown Gatlinburg in minutes. Hotel was amazing. Our parking was directly right outside our hotel room which made it very convenient to load and unload all our stuff. Hotel was clean and neat. Breakfast was actually very good.
The location was perfect. We also loved the balcony over looking the creek. Easy to walk to anywhere in gatlinburg with young kids. In downtown but in a quiet area. Decent parking lot. & my boys loved that the ober came right past the hotel.
Excellent value for money with free parking and just 15 minute walk to Gatlinburgh downtown area. Room and breakfast on the badic side but expected that for the price. Comfortable nights sleep.
The breakfast was better than most hotels, front desk staff was quick to check-in and check-out, and service when additional room items were needed arrived quickly and effortlessly.
The hotel room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. The hotel was very clean. It was a wonderful stay. It was a good price for being downtown gatlinburg.
Location was quiet and on the river. Near the Smokey Mountain Park entrance. The staff was very friendly and quickly took care of a couple small things.
