My daughter met me in Auckland from California and I came from Texas. Barbara and Stu were so sweet, kind and friendly. The breakfast room has a beautiful rectangle table I wanted to take home with me. The breakfast was amazing! Crispy meaty bacon, tasty sausage and the eggs were perfectly round. Thanks again for everything!
Offering free WiFi, Coastal Motor Lodge is set on lovely landscaped gardens directly opposite the waters of Kuranui Bay.

We did not enjoy the property. Our “chalet” had a very rusted cafe table and chairs on the front porch. Yuk. The staff looked like he hadn’t showered in days and wasn’t welcoming at all. I would NEVER recommend staying here. What a rip-off.

Thames is a quiet town with quite a few coffee shops and a good variety of stores to browse. The supermarket (Pack & Save) was close to where we were staying. There are several locations close to Thames that are worth a visit The Gold mine just north of town Cathedral beach and the hot water beach are worth the time to check out. A scenic drive up to Coramandel town is interesting. Just be careful on the narrow sea side road. Enjoy

Didnt know which cafe to choose, but this one had a lot of people in it, so we chose this one.Hot chocolate cafe. The big breakfast and the pancakes were delicious. Quaint, busy little township, just caught the tail end of the market. We stumbled on another cafe further up, which sold this devine louise cake & caramel wheaty slice. Yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed the Nakontong Thai restaurant for dinner too.

Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good.
Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good. Luckily for me there was only one other guest a female but that was awkward as we both wanted to shower at the same time. Lucky for both of us there were not 3 couples staying at the same time.

The Coastal walkway is a good walk. Old town worth a visit.
The Coastal walkway is a good walk. Old town worth a visit. Lots of good places to eat in town and some good shops and cafes. Lots of walks up the Kauaeranga river Valley in the Cormandel Forest Park.
Good base for surrounding areas, we did full circuit of Carmandel from here. Also enjoyed Gold mines tour at Waihi and walks on the Whatawheta river gorge
Stu, the owner is an absolute dream! He was hospitable, cooked us a fabulous breakfast as part of the room rate and was incredibly amenable, even taking care of our bikes after our long ride from Kaiaua. The hotel is very close to the main street of town and it is extremely comfortable. We came back from dinner in town to a roaring fire in the lounge. You share bathroom facilities but don't be put off by that as there are plenty of showers and toilets and they were spotlessly clean. I would highly recommend this place in Thames.
Chartre Manor was for us an ideal place to stay. We were warmly greeted by Anna-Marie and she went over and above to supply us with breakfast food, snacks, drinks, which we highly appreciated. The location on a hill overlooking the land and the water was great. There were sheep and rabbits in the field, which along with the many birds gave a relaxing atmosphere. The cottage is very quiet and spacious. Thames has several good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again when we visit New Zealand.
Friendly easygoing owners of a historical building that is part of the Thames/Coromandel experience. The owners are very open about the “gold rush” simplicity of their home & provided lots of history to go with it. The whole package worked well for us. And yes, key to b&b success, breakfast arrangements were great for getting our days off to a good start, on time & owners were keen to assist in providing information and/or supplies where they could. THANK YOU!
A nice holiday park with plenty to do within the park and nearby. A nice river to swim in, some trails, games like table tennis, very friendly and helpful staff, and seemingly booked by overall good people. I ended up adding another night as I grew comfortable and really established myself into New Zealand, as this was my second spot I stayed during my trip. The kitchen was also pretty nice and well equipped.
We just spent one night at the motel to escape cyclone Gabrielle so we didn’t get to enjoy the pool or other facilities. But we appreciated the super friendly welcome by the staff and the clean and comfortable room. The location is great to explore Thames and the area. The kitchenette has everything needed to prepare breakfast or small meals. Beds were comfortable and felt fairly new.
Our hosts Ken was very welcoming and gave great advise for our trip round the Cormandel peninsular. Good sized room, comfy bed and very clean. I even used the pool which was clean and very inviting. Outdoor patio area to sit out in. Enjoyed our visit to Thames and the Cormandel peninsular.
Everything! Situated above Thames with great views, Anna-Marie and Johan were perfect hosts for our 3 night stay. The Cottage is spacious and comfortable. The breakfast provisions were more than generous and Anna-Marie kept us supplied with additional treats.
Sunset hotel is a diamond in the rough we didn't expect much on Booking but the staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation was spacious clean and very accomodating right on the beach and would highly recommend to other travelers
My husband and I have stayed in a few motels lately. This was the most expensive but very comfortable the bed we had was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We also loved the fact we could cook her if we wanted to.
Location was great- close to town, but nice and quiet
Hosts go above and beyond and have many tips for a wonderful stay, including where to eat and what to do
Looking forward to going back when we are next in New Zealand
This property is very quaint, and the staff was extra helpful as we acclimated to New Zealand. Our unit was well-sized and perfect for our needs. It's the perfect base of operations for exploring the Coromandel.
Fabulous cottage, beautifully decorated, very well-equipped, lots of extras in fridge and pantry; excellent location close to coast pathway and township.
We stayed in the Rata cottage. Absolutely amazing view out over the Firth of Thames.
Spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. Friendly & knowledgeable hosts.
