Such a magical property. The photos don't do it justice! It's so serene, we had a wonderfully relaxing escape back to nature. Not to mention the breakfast is to die for... so much choice and all such high quality ingredients. One of our group was a vegan and was so well catered for.

Fantastic at his job
Villa Arcadio is in Salò, on the hills above Lake Garda. A former monastery of the 18th century, it offers a lake-view swimming pool surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation.

Villa Arcardio is an outstanding boutique hotel set in the hills above Salò on Lake Garda. The impression once gets as our taxi from the station wound up the steep cobbled drive to this ancient former monastery was almost like visiting well-off Italian relations for the first time. We had a wonderfully warm welcome as if we were long-lost family and were conducted to our lovely room which, incidentally had the remains of 14th century decorations on parts of the walls. The window overlooked the swimming pool and to the right Lake Garda over which the sun rose majestically and colourfully each morning. We were then shown around the premises and introducted to staff as we went round. We felt very much at home. The staff were kind, attrentive, helpful, delightful, friendly. It is well out of the bustle of the town. surrounded by olive groves and fruit trees with wooded hills rising behind (it is as good 40 minute but pleasant downhill walk into Salò - more effort getting back!). Sounds were not of traffic or late night revellers as you might expect in a town, instead could be heard the sounds of distant chickens clucking, wind in the trees, birds singing and at night, a chorus of frogs croaking (must be the mating season!). We saw the little green and black frogs on a couple of occasions while timid lizards basked in the sun on rocks. Eagles could occasionally be seen circling around the hills that form the backdrop to the premises. The whole villa has been very expertly restored without spoiling its historic character and is filled with antique furniture, clocks and other items very tastefully used. The food in the restaurant (whether breakfast, lunch or dinner) was extremely good. Suffice to say we were sad to leave and hope that we might stay again some day.
Set a few steps from the shores of the Lake Garda, Hotel Conca d'Oro is located in Salò. Guests can enjoy free WiFi, a restaurant and a garden with an outdoor seating area.
