Great location, everything you need to cook food and great shower. Warm and cosy house. Beds are comfy.
We stayed at Wheatsheaf Hotel, and it was superb. Swinton is a very small, remote village in the Scottish borders. It appears on this, our first visit, to be sleepy and have little to do, but this was in January so it is probably not a true reflection. There are, however, a number of bigger towns within a reasonably short drive. so a car is essential to get about.
Booked last minute due to a train strike, and what a find. Great traditional hotel in a lovely village setting. Very good food (both evening meal & breakfast) and the real ale looked good too (I did not try sadly). Staff are very friendly and welcoming. I needed to work and they pointed me to a downstairs table, WiFi and looked after me until done.
If you go take any books DVDs you no longer want and check out the bus stop near the old church which is a community swap stop! (although you may come away with replacements :) )
Beautiful location, garden was lovely. House was an amazing warren of interesting rooms for the kids to explore. Lots of sofas for lounging about in the evening. The kitchen was big enough to cook big dinners for everyone and sit down at the big kitchen table to eat. Lovely views from all the windows. Nice little pub just along the road in Swinton with a beer garden.
An absolutely superb hotel for a holiday. Exceptionally friendly welcome, and shown to a nice big room with a comfy bed and a couple of easy chairs. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant - both were superb. Service was excellent throughout.
The breakfast was exceptional. The location was rather remote to Berwick on Tweed and North Berwick, but the Hotel was a treat and was the nearest we could get to the places mentioned earlier. We would definitely recommend the hotel.
we were driving home from Scotland, were too tired to continue journey so decided to stay overnight before continuing journey back to London.
We were pleased that the Wheatsheaf Hotel could accommodate us on a B&B basis.
