We liked the old town which was very pretty but not pretentious. A bit run down in places but lots of new developments too, eg the Gloucester Docks. Lots of independent pubs and restaurants, not overpriced. Friendly people. Lots of history. Everything really close to centre and quiet for a city (except for the seagulls)!

Beautiful cathedral which is what we came to see.
Beautiful cathedral which is what we came to see. Good transport links to other towns - Worcester and Tewkesbury. Docks area is attractive with restaurants, bars etc. and the area around the cathedral has some nice shops, tea rooms etc.

It’s very easy to reach Gloucester from the hotel especially if you like shopping at the Gloucester Quays. Found it very handy to get to Stroud and Painswick as well and the M5 motorway.
I personally wouldn’t use the bistro pub for meals at the Gloucester quays- the high orchard. Microwave meals with the wrong prices still in the menus and bar staff manager who couldn’t give a toss.
Cheltenham is nice to eat in if you fancy a day out and lots of dog friendly places too.

We wanted lots of choice of food and night time entertainment . Although the food we had was good in the main it was the usual branded restaurants. Night time bar entertainment very limited. Not very much high octane adventure to be had here. Won’t be rushing back

Yes gloucester is a nice area.
Yes gloucester is a nice area. But I would avoid staying at the new Inn, the management isn't fit for purpose. I've bren in other places with better management and more customer awareness. Management highly sensitive, room needs refurbishment. Just remember if you do stay there avoid saying something management doesn't like at the new inn, or you end up with a wooden bed, no shower or mattress. They get your money and you get free accommodation from his majesties police force. Don't waste your money, there is better accommodation in the area. Otherwise the area has great views, canal walks, and walks in general. And other stuff going on for it. It's a gorgeous place

Interesting city.
Interesting city. Walks available, along canal, and nature reserve. Cathedral, old buildings, museums ETC to visit. Docks area great for drinking & dining. Small enough to reach everything on foot.
The reception staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. Beds were comfortable and showers were great. Rooms were clean and two out of our three rooms were very spacious. We received an upgrade when arriving late at night after our Airbnb had been cancelled and we had to find emergency accommodation. This was extremely appreciated! Everybody was very friendly and the hotel is located right in the centre of Gloucester. Parking is available in the city council parking just around the corner for only a few pounds.
After booking, noticed guest needed photo id. Guest did not have but was able to discuss with booking.com who contacted Central Hotel, and agreed debit card and birth certificate would be sufficient. Room was as requested, a disabled room 004. The late check out was helpful, because of the bus times leaving Gloucester. Guest will want to visit again and on checking on leaving, we were informed that she can book directly and pay with debit card, this is helpful so it does not involve a third party.
I was so glad to have chosen The Thatch Inn as our base for exploring the Cotswolds. It's only 3 miles from Gloucester with frequent bus connection (Number 12) to the city centre. The bus-stop is right opposite the hotel. I was most impressed with the hospitality of the staff and their team spirit which made for a warm atmosphere. If a hotel is judged by its customer service and customer’s satisfaction, The Thatch Inn ought to be a 5* hotel!
When I arrived at the hotel no one was there to check us in. the lights were off and the doors were locked. When I reached out they said they closed on the day o book but I had been in contact with the property about checkin and accommodation for an infant. they never mentioned it until it was too late. I was left stranded with a 3 month old baby out in the cold and the property has been ignoring me ever since.
The Ibis Hotel contacted me about 2 weeks before I was due to travel to say the Hotel was closed till later in the year due to a project being carried out and they had rebooked me into the Holiday Inn just up the road from them all terms and conditions the same. So this Rating In NOT for the Ibis and any questions I could/have answered relate to the Holiday Inn Cheltenham/Gloucester.
The hotel was lovely. A little disappointed that a full English breakfast was not included in our stay though, this was changed at £5 extra per person per day.
The spa facilities were nice and we had a lovely time.
The hotel was situated near to Gloucester and Cheltenham and we had a nice time exploring both cities.
The reception staff were lovely and very helpful.
We had a marvellous time here in September during a very difficult time for our family. The staff could not have been more friendly, accommodating, kind and understanding. We were made to feel very special and the whole hotel is charming and welcoming. The spa was gorgeous and relaxing. Would definitely recommend the dining experience too. We'll be back!
Quiet, clean and comfy, in the heart of Gloucester. I loved this Grade 1 medieval inn. It has lots of charm. Room was very spacious, with a nice deep bathtub and plenty of hot water. WiFi was strong and the staff was friendly. I wish I could have stayed longer and would definitely stay here again.
We were a choir visiting Gloucester to sing in the cathedral. We were all very impressed with the excellent manager Harry who looked after us all very well. Hotel staff all very helpful and went that extra mile for us all and especially with one of our party whose mobility is impaired.
Typical Holiday Inn room. Large television screen. Correct bathroom but a little small. Breakfast ok. Hotel located on the outskirts of Gloucester which allows you to visit the city (15 minutes drive), visit the Costwolds, or dine Chetenham near the center.
Good coffee provided and breakfast (extra cost) was very good with nice range of menu. The room was quite spacious with partial river view but nearby main road caused some noise in early hours of morning. Pleasant gardens, countryside around hotel.
Good location - near town and station but quiet. The hotel owner was friendly and knowledgeable; he gave us useful tips to enhance our stay in Gloucester. Ideal location to catch the frequent bus to Cheltenham from practically outside the front door.
Breakfast was excellent, dinner meals excellent, room was large and comfortable, very clean. Love the old building and pub. I would recommend you stay here if looking around Gloucestershire area.
