This is a must see beautiful place.
This is a must see beautiful place. The drive to Quiatola has some of the most spectacular views in Ecuador. The views at Quiatola are breathtaking. Be prepared to pay a nominal per person fee to get into the park at Quiatola.

The Princessa Tia Hotel is the place to stay in Quilatoa,...
The Princessa Tia Hotel is the place to stay in Quilatoa, best location, great breakfast, large room and bathroom, very clean and comfortable bed. But the best feature is the rooms all have an electric heater. Quilatoa is cold, so the benefit of the heater, which is rare to find anywhere in Ecuador, is amazing!
The rim hike is beautiful but steep and slippery in places. Poles would be a good idea. The hike down to the lake is surprisingly long, steep and slippery. There are horses or mules that can take you back up for $10 pp. Get out early as the fog moves in around 4pm and obscures visibility of the lake. The sun in the morning makes the water’s colors amazing. You can take a kayak out or go for a motorized ride in a zodiac.
The town is tiny and closes up early so don’t delay going to dinner. There are no pharmacies or banks and only 1 ATM which wouldn’t work with our card. Also, be careful because there are no gas stations for the entire Quilatoa Loop. Fill up before heading up either route to Quilatoa.

We were in Quitoloa during the low season.
We were in Quitoloa during the low season. Not too crowded :)
Accommodations at Cuchirawa Hostel were directly across from the crater. Ample free parking; we walked everywhere. Enjoyed a post-hike beer at a restaurant on the crater ridge.

The Quilotoa Loop was absolutely worth every step!
The Quilotoa Loop was absolutely worth every step! For sure start from Sigchos so you can have the lagoon as a reward after 3 days of difficult hiking. The hikes were beautiful (although rather steep) and a fantastic way to reach Quilotoa.

The views were breathtaking and amazing; there was a 6hr hike around the rim with a few areas the path made you doubt what you were doing but overall it was worth it; the hike down to the water takes about 30-40 minutes and 1-1.5hrs to hike out - I am not an avid hiker and it took me 2hrs to climb back up. The trail is slippery and hiking poles were beneficial. I'd love to go back and do the 4 days hike around.

Trekked the Quilotoa loop. It was amazing!
Trekked the Quilotoa loop. It was amazing! the views are fantastic and it is a medium difficulty hike. The only problem was coming down the highest point. It is incredibly slippery and there is nothing to hang on to. The ground is loose dirt so one has to be VERY careful.
A very nice guesthouse with nice staff. Clean, nice rooms, wifi. Close to the town gate and to the lake. It is now $2 per person to enter Quilotoa town.
Dinner is at 7.
The buses leave Quilotoa every hour, but there is a lot of unpredictable waiting for passengers so it took my bus over 2.5 hours though it was a 1.5 hour drive.
Buses from latacunga to Quilotoa leave at 8,10 and noon.
By far the best sleep we had in 3 weeks in Ecuador! The beds were amazingly comfortable and cozy and the rooms were so quiet. Showers were nice and hot, breakfast was filling. It was a great home base for us to do a few day hikes in Quilotoa. Not to mention the owners were unbelievably friendly and kind. Would definitely recommend!
The hosts, Doña Ester y Don Gonzalo, went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. They prepared a firewood for us and we had a delicious supper in their company, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Hostal Rosita is on the track linking Quilotoa to Chugchilan, about 500 meters from the village of Guyama San Pedro.
The location is central and right in front of quilotoa Lake. The food was delicious, and the prices were remarkably reasonable. Many guides and day visitors visited the place. There is a little market in the lobby with souvenirs etc., that is very convenient. At night the fire in the room is started by the hotel staff.
Everything. Good food, good ownwes. I loved the hammocks that overlooked a grass knoll where llamas just chilled. It's clean, quiet, and perfect stay on your quilotoa loop hike.
Of note, no hot water so take your shower early. It's fine and for the price and other things you should still stay here.
Super friendly and helpful staff, also with food allergies+vegetarian. Good good and loads of it!
Location is literally 5min walk from the bus stop, 2min from shops/centre and 5min from the quilotoa Crater lake.
They were super easy with turning the stove on whenever you wanted, as its very cold.
The hostel is a bit outside quilotoa but only a 7 min walk. They give you a lot of blankets and a heater which you need as it's cold! However, one of the best nights of sleep ever! The guy who worked there was really nice and very polite and made us simple but tasty meals!
The hotel is located right across from one of the best views of Quilotoa crater lake. It was very convenient to access the hiking trails. The shower was great; hot with good water pressure. The staff tried hard to be helpful; it is obviously a local family run business.
Our fire in our room was lit as soon as we arrived in the cold and wet which was lovely to sit and look out at the rain while drying off in a warm room. Comfortable room and a good shower. Very close to the viewpoint for the Quilotoa crater
The hosts were really welcoming, the breakfast was excellent and the hostel is in a good location with a cosy fire to keep you warm at night. There was water and tea and coffee making facilities available with a good selection of tea bags.
the hostel is very cosy and extremely tidy, room are spacious with hot water and a stove, food is delicious and the family that runs the place is very friendly and accomodating. Overall a great find in Quilotoa.
Additional heating available, since temperatures can fall below zero during night. Perfect breakfast and dinner. Super location at the beginning of Quilotoa village.
Very close to lake Quilotoa. Good parking area. Good value as the price of the room includes dinner and breakfast. Basic rooms but clean and in good shape.
