Kandersteg is a wonderful village in a beautiful setting with lots to offer but is relatively quiet compared to other similar locations nearby. It's a wonderful place to getaway and be surrounded by farms, nature, elements and silence.

We went in late summer and walked in a different part of the surrounding mountains every day. Good cable car access to or from higher areas but also options to walk to the mountains/lakes from Kandersteg. Local buses and trains are free with the area guest pass and there is 20% off cable car fares. Several restaurants to choose from for meals and coop etc to buy picnic. Beautiful village. Only 2 hour train journey from Basel. Kandersteg tourist office website has info on many local walks with interactive maps.

At the altitude of Kandersteg, wildflowers are at their peak in early to mid June. The place is suitable for children (the Rodelbahn), the more accomplished climbers (the Via Ferrata), and everyone in between. It's a gateway to beautiful places for hikers of various abilities, e.g. the Gasterntal, the Allmenalp, the Gemmi Pass, the Oeschinnensee, the various alpine huts. Perhaps that's why the International Scouts Centre is situated in Kandersteg. Everything within the village is within a 10-minute walk. Anything further can be reached by hourly bus service (free with guest card).

Stunning mountain scenery, fantastic walking via cable cars. We received free passes for the cable cars as part of a village-wide promotion for a 3 + night stay. Very good public swimming pool in the village - used every day due to hot weather.

Kandersteg is a clean and beautiful town near alpine hikes, ski areas with activities in summer, bicycling, and many other outdoor activities, all with spectacular scenery. We used Kandersteg as a place to rest with a day-hike between longer hikes in the SAC huts above tree-line, which require a lot more strenuous hiking to reach. The Oeschinensee is spectacular, and also fascinating from a geotechnical engineering perspective.

Beautiful little hamlet in the Alps with easy access by train. The views are spectacular and a cable car carries you up far above the city with spectacular views of the city and a beautiful glacier melt lake after a short hike. Most services are available in town including groceries, pharmacy, numerous restaurants, and hotels in a variety of price ranges.

Tremendous location in the village centre and just 10 minutes walk from the cable car to Oeschinsee, wonderful mountain and waterfall views from the road-facing rooms. Nice balcony. The staff couldn't do enough for me, offering to dry my wet hiking gear. Very friendly management who are in the restaurant every morning and evening to talk to the guests. Very good wifi. Convenient parking behind the hotel. Very spacious rooms. Restaurant is pricier than others nearby but the food and service was excellent. Quality of breakfast was superb.

We got an upgrade for a room with a jaccuzi. Room was big, comfortable, very nice bed and pillows. The jaccuzi opening to the terrasse was really nice. And the view on our private terrasse was amazing. The cleaning team does an amazing job, all the facilities were impeccable. The hotel team was really nice. They also have a spa and a pool, which we also enjoyed. The location of the hotel is perfect to do all the activities in Kandersteg and the region.

The chalet is very cozy, located in a calm and beautiful neighborhood surrounded by meadows and a small stream and at a short driving distance from the cable cars. The rooms were very comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped and the living room with a view of mountains and waterfall. The owner was very kind and always available to give some hints about nice attractions in the nearby area.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The hosts are taking lots of efforts to please the guests. The stuff is very professional and attentive. It’s a perfect place for families, with easy access to the ski lift where there’s a lot to do for kids. We stayed for the new year night and the party organised by the hotel was a very high level. Thank you!

This place just oozes historic charm! We’ve stayed here in winter & summer months and it’s lovely. If you’re looking for a place to rest your head in Kandersteg this is the place. The food consists of typical Swiss dishes, the rooms/beds are comfortable and you can use their sister hotel’s sauna/pool facilities across the street for free.
