We arrived very early (5 hours before check in) and they accommodated us without any issues. The staff is incredible and always assisted when needed. I forgot my purse and they called us right away when we left and returned it to us when we got there-the service was amazing! The property is perfectly located if you want a rest night on your way to Durban as it’s right off the highway which was perfect! The bed slept great!!

it is a bit of a hidden gem.

it is a bit of a hidden gem. Roads are gravel which adds to teh character. about 6 kms from the turn off- the farm is located. rich history - well preserved. Van Reenen is an ideal half- way stop to Durban. the farm caters for meals etc and also has braai stands in the gardens. We had all our meals, dinner and breakfast at the farm. Next time- maybe book a room with a shower and also ensure that we spend longer at the farm.

Pyramid Motel has been a rest and stopover destination for my family for well over 30+ years. The theme of the pyramids are reflected in the chalets and even in the bathroom! I was the only guest and David from reception brought me my supper of liver and onions and Greek salad to my chalet. It was delicious! as was the breakfast the next morning. I arrived early enough to enjoy a stroll through the property and enjoy the beautiful nature and sunset from my patio. The bed hugged me to refresh me for the next day's trip. Pyramid Motel is definitely one of my favourite overnight places to stay.

It was an overnight stay as we had flown into South Africa in Johannesburg, collected our new vehicle and drove down to Umhlanga. Because we didn't want to drive in the dark, we decided to sleep overnight in Van Reenen and leave early the next morning. It was a perfect halfway stop for the night.

The Little Church cafe was absolutely amazing.

The Little Church cafe was absolutely amazing. The staff are so friendly. The food is so tasty. The owner makes all the cakes and scones and they are to die for. Really a must stop. They also have the cutest cottages to overnight in. Stop by you will not regret it.

The Inn offers a unique and quirky experience.

The Inn offers a unique and quirky experience. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and the kids enjoyed the table tennis, snooker and the donkey. The food was ok ... The accomodation itself was shocking. TV didn't work. Too few towels were provided and they were damp. Then when I requested more towels they were also damp. The room was freezing.

The location is beautiful - you can sit with your coffee and just take in the scenery. It is super-quiet - many halfway stops between Gauteng and KZN are next to the highway - this one is 10 minutes off the highway and all you can hear is nature. Van Reenen gets cold - so if you are coming from the coast bring something warm and the cosy fireplace in the lounge area will also help. Oban is particularly suitable to families who need a halfway stop - the food is simple, homely and wholesome (i.e. something the kids will actually eat).

Very nice, light, clean and spacious house in the most beautiful place with breathtaking mountain views. It's very quiet, lots of fresh air. Cattle, zebras, horses grazing all around. The house has very comfortable and spacious bedrooms. Very big dining room with spectacular views. The house has all the necessary amenities. The kitchen is fully equipped. The estate itself is close to the Little Church and Van Reenen. The host Elsa is a lovely woman who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable.

The location of the hotel is ideal, being half-way to our final destination. The hotel is very dated, the family room was in two halves with the shower and toilet in-between,all the furniture was ancient, with a broken radio(the same one was broken ,during our last stay, two years ago). The gardens, pool were amazing and very well kept. The staff were friendly nd attentive, and the food was excellent value for money. All in all,a great place to ejoy, without expecting too much.

Traveling as a gay couple, my partner and I are always cautious wherever we go. As we hadn't been to Van Reenen before, we booked a twin room to be respectful in case people were conservative. On check in, the lady at reception immediately knew we were a couple, and offered us a double room so we could sleep together. She made us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable. Rooms were very cozy, bed very comfortable. Perfect stop between Johannesburg and Durban.

Ultimately you get what you pay for. It's modest accomodation, but if you're looking to put your head down for a few hours to break up the trip to Durban, it's a good option. Other hotels in the area cost double this. Many options exist on the property. Although I didn't use the dinner / breakfast option this time, in a previous visit I did and it was really good.

This is a very rustic beautiful house. It is in Van Reenen - it's very very cold! But the host supplied wood for a fire, so everything was wonderful. We had no issues and the views are amazing! Be warned - the WiFi is exceptional, but there is no TV. You actually have to talk to each other! We had a fantastic stay and will definitely make use of it again on our next trip.

Fascinating to see how a small village has been made into a hotel. Beautiful location, with spectacular view of the surrounding hills. The room was warm and cosy, with the extra touch of an electric blanket. Dining room was warm, with a log fire going. Food was very good. Service was personal and great.

Everything! The location- a major plus- breaks the journey from Durban to Bloem perfectly. The farm itself is wonderful,- beautiful views, cattle, sheep etc. Garden Cottage was perfect- had everything we needed, cozy, fireplace. A treasure, tucked away in the Van Reenen valley! Definitely going back!
