Mostly it's a stop along the way to other areas. Not a lot of touristy activities but staying over is pleasant enough. The people in the town are friendly. It's very small and there are only a few restaurants, so don't expect fancy fare, just basic pizza or diner food. There is a full service grocery store despite the small size of the town if none of the take out is appealing to you. There is a national park with access just east of the town with a passable road into the wilderness (summer only) that leads to some really beautiful scenery along the Thompson River. Lots of fly fishing on the lower portions of the Thompson.

It's a small, quaint, and beautiful town. The residents are friendly and helpful. It seems ideal for a quick getaway or perfect for a pit stop when travelling longer distances. Plenty of nature, water, and scenic views around.

It's a nice small town with friendly people.

It's a nice small town with friendly people. We had dinner at Big Eddy's Deck Bar, overlooking the river - good food and view! Some restaurants were closed for the July 4th weekend. We bought a latte and a bag of truly delicious donut holes at the Black Bear Coffee Shop. From The Falls Motel we were able to walk over the bridge and travel some trails, including one to Cherry Creek which was a beautiful surprise. It's was just an overnight stay, but it was very relaxing.

Full disclosure: we have family in this town, so we always enjoy the visits. We sometimes travel across the US a couple of times of year to Thompson Falls, and no matter what the season, we enjoy all the outdoor activities that we do there. The town in a small, charming place where the people who live there take great pride in. This is not the place for you if you want night life or entertainment other than a good hike, fly fishing, or soaking up the gorgeous scenery. In fact, I am reluctant to give the town a good review, as I hope it stays just the way it is--untainted by a lot of touristy things and people who expect citified accommodations. The town does have a nice network of family-friendly trails that emanate right from the center of town and/or the schools. And, to get ready for all the outdoor activity you can enjoy, eat at Minnie's. The breakfasts are big enough for two meals--or two people.

Beautiful spot by the river. Great breakfast place, Minnies.

Beautiful spot by the river. Great breakfast place, Minnies. Eddy s is fine for dinner but very much a bar/pub, and tall "jesus stool" style chairs are the only seating option, which may inconvenience those with mobility issues. Menu is almost completely carbohydrate based, but the house salad is terrific. Extras can double the total. The greatest asset to Thompson Falls, in my opinion, is the people, who have welcomed me with courtesy and helpfulness.

If you are in to small town hospitality, this is the place.

If you are in to small town hospitality, this is the place. My only disappointment was that I made our trip to include two Fridays. The Friday clam chowder at Minnies cafe is out of this world! Well, they closed one Friday for their anniversary and trip to California. We are from California!

Excellent location on the banks of the Clark Fork river. Gorgeous views of the river from the rooms window, and if you have a lower floor room, from the walkout patio. Also from the restaurant and its outdoor deck. The hotel is located on a miles-long trail along the river that stretches from the nearby state park to the dam’s powerhouse. Some updating of our room had been done.

The motel was within walking distance of the lake area and we went at sunset and sunrise and got some amazing pictures. We were there in early October. The room was clean and had the microwave, refrigerator and coffee. We liked the room because we are budget travelers and we felt the price was reasonable.

We have been staying at the Falls Motel for several years now and enjoy it every year. I am sad to hear they are closing next weekend and not reopening. Would be curious to know if the facility is for sale??

Location for a rest stop along our travels was ideal as there was a walking trail behind the hotel. Scenic and a nice place to swim. The restaurant attached to the hotel provided a great breakfast.

We loved the location of Riverfront Motel, so close to the town of Thompson Falls. Our room was more spacious than a typical motel room. The setting was lovely, and we had a stress-free evening.
