The Carey house is furnished with incredible antique furnishings and matching dark brown/red woodwork in the lobby as well as large, back lit stained glass window coverings along the wall across from the front desk,. An antique piano and a chess board with chairs and well as chairs and couches filled out the lobby. My room was similarly furnished though they may have been imitation but IDC. I ended up paying for a single room but ended up with a sitting room with two wing chairs and TV as well as a vary small kitchen (two burner stove top, mini fridge and sink to go with the bathroom and my bedroom with a second TV and a comfy bed. The weather was mild so no AC in the room was a non issue but I can see it could be in mid summer. The only minor drawback was the carpets in the hall were not perfectly smooth but the damn building is 150 years old so its to be expected. Staff was very friendly but the front desk closed down relatively early and opened later than expected (seemed to operate from 8:00am-7:00PM although they could be reached by phone. That they locked the lobby doors when the front desk was no staffed was actually a bonus since non guest could not wander around and the room key opened the front door when it was locked. This is a historic hotel with all the look and atmosphere one could hope for at incredibly cheap price ($83.00/night for three nights). I would stay there again in a second. Also several food options within a couple of block in downtown Old Placerville and while most of the food was just OK it was close and acceptable. I even took photos of the lobby to show off to my friends who stayed in other nearby places at much higher prices.

We ate well, enjoying the Asian Restuarant on Christmas Eve, the Buffet on Christmas Day and Breakfast the next morning. We played well in the APEX Entertainment Complex on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We slept well in such a beautiful, comfortable room and just had an OVERALL GREAT TIME for Christmas 2023! Breakfast was a great touch. We loved the jacuzzi and room.
I liked that it was near a freeway and grocery store.
I liked that it was near a freeway and grocery store. We ate downtown. I would avoid this motel. It was passable but it lacked a lot of amenties I needed. It was not that clean and some of the lamps didn't work. The TV had terrible reception, too.

Our trip was cut short because the hotel was advertised as handicap accessible on their web page and it was not. We booked a suite and it was hardly that. It had a kitchenette, but no dishes, one pan, two cups, the carpet was filthy, the couch was uncomfortable, the room was small and the bathroom was inacessable for my husband's wheelchair. The staff was rude.

There is no elevator but, that was ok for us.
They didn’t come to clean or give us fresh towels. I called the front desk to ask for 2 bath towels and he said that he would send them right up and nobody came 🤷🏻♀️

Placerville is very nice place located up the Sierra Mountains were the temperature is cooler than down in the valley. Yet, it is only 20 minutes away from Folsom, and probably 40 minutes from downtown Sacramento.
There are a lot of restaurants and bars in historic Placerville and also a lot of places to hike.

I was there for the Hangtown Wild West and Steampunk Festival, where my Civil War reenacting club had an exhibit. I spent the whole time at the fairgrounds. I wish I had had more time to explore the fairgrounds--seemed delightful!

I love Placerville, CA.
I love Placerville, CA. I love the people here and how helpful they are. I came here to fight the Caldor Fire and met some of the most wonderful Americans I have ever met in our country. Visit this beautiful county and enjoy the history of this beautiful place. I love this county, Placerville, it’s people and land. Come visit.
Location and surrounding were special and the house itself had many preserved features of bygone days. There was a very comfortable communal lounge decorated and furnished in traditional styles ...not quite from the days of the gold rush days.... and lots of books.
Of course it's location in placerville just down the road from Sutter's mill where the hunt for the yellow metal began...
Breakfast was excellent and served in the room. Fridge and ciffe machine in room too.
This is a wonderful hotel. It is old and historical. The lobby is like a museum. But the rooms are better than in modern hotels. Silent heating. The room consists of two rooms - a living room with a kitchenette and a bedroom. Large selection of cable channels on TV for free. Internet and parking are free. Excellent location in downtown. There are cafes, bars, restaurants around. Next time I'll try to stay there again.
Nice older house. Room about the same size as a typical motel room. Quiet, relaxing, private patio/backyard area. I couldn't stay for the cooked breakfast at 9 am, so the owner put yogurt, pastry, fruit and orange juice in a bag for me to eat in the morning. There was a pedestrian bridge over the freeway that takes you to downtown Placerville where all the restaurants and shops are. Very handy.
Really worst experience I’ve ever had at best western. Bathroom vent ran all night. Couldn’t stop. Manager said it was supposed to run all the time. I’ve never been in a room where it run always. Supposed to only run when switch is on. Couldn’t sleep for the noises
Very friendly and extremely clean. The accommodations were above average. Their attention to detail was evident. I felt very blessed and wished that I could have stayed longer. Next trip through Placerville, I will definitely come back. Thank you!
Very comfortable, pleasant efficient staff, beautifully-kept "step back in time" for a historic hotel! Great location, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, churches, & gas stations. Easy to find. Well-represented on search engines & website.
I had to stay a night in Placerville when Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe was closed due to heavy snows. Given the situation the lodging served it’s purpose, but wouldn’t recommend it for anything other than a single nights rest in a pinch.
2nd time staying--Husband and I rode our motorcycles from Chico to visit friends in Placerville. I love this place because the desk lady is super friendly and it is in a beautiful location, plus Grocery Outlet is a 1-min walk away :)
This is such an unique hotel - I believe there is nothing else comparable like the Historic Cary House Hotel. It is like if you would take a step into a time machine and come back to the mid of 18th century to this :D
Historic it is! Lots of original details work even an elevator that looks like it came when the building was first build! Location is great with all the stores and restaurants in placerville at walking distance.
A nice budget motel on the edge of Placerville. Somewhat quiet, bus stops nearby, comfortable bed, small fridge and microwave, lots of good tv channels. Definitely worth the price if youre on a budget.
