Sonesta ES Suites South Brunswick - Princeton, hotel in Hillsborough

Located 8.9 km away from Princeton University and the Drumthwacket Estate, this all-suite hotel offers free WiFi and a daily hot breakfast buffet.

What I liked about the room was the fact that it was very much self-contained and would be good for using as a base to tour the area from and know you could eat back at your room rather than eat out every night. If I was there for a prolonged stay with work I would be pleased as it had everything I'd probably need, especially if it's at a time when the pool was open. Beds were very comfortable which made it difficult to get up on a morning. Handy location for Princeton and also we used it as a location to go to Trenton and get a train into Philadelphia. Admittedly there are places nearer Trenton but we wanted to visit areas nearer Princeton as well. Another bonus was the amount of supermarkets a short drive away if you wanted to eat in and cook your own food. Good sized fridge freezer too.

Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center, hotel in Hillsborough

Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center offers accommodation in New Brunswick. Guests can enjoy the on-site snack bar. You will find a coffee machine in the room.

The bed and bedding were very comfortable, the view the room was a mowed field, brush and a tree line. Lovely and quiet. I lived in East Brunswick for decades and would not stay at any East Brunswick facilities. The New Brunswick hotels are all fancier larger properties. The Rutgers Inn was “ just right “. At checkin I was asked to initial a three night stay. I explained to the gentleman, my dog was having emergency surgery that day, and depending on recovery, I might need to leave a day early if he was discharged. He said “ no problem,” but at check out I was charged for the unused night. I have addressed this with the property directly, and hope for a favorable reply. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. I look forward to using it again. I was married at Kirkpatrick Chapel. and my husband was a graduate of Cook College. Many happy memories!

Hillsborough and neighboring towns are nice; Dukes Farm is a must-see for an afternoon of walking and meditation. Silk Road Restaurant in Warren is the best Middle-Eastern dinner I've had in a while.

The price was reasonable, the facility clean, the staff cordial, and the location excellent. Unfortunately, the room we stayed it (253) was falling apart, with multiple physical failures (including a non-functioning outlet, broken cabinets, frozen fridge, etc. The biggest disaster was the heating system, which was VERY noisy. Since it cycled on/off every so-many-minutes, it successfully kept us up most of the night, and almost ruined our visit to friends the following day. The "breakfast" also was seriously sparse, with virtually no "food" choices (no decaf coffee, only two cold cereals, no eggs, etc.). Not at all impressive. As we were driving away, my wife commented that we should have stayed at some other motel, even if the cost of doing so was significantly higher. She was correct in this observationl

The majority of the staff was very helpful and friendly.

The majority of the staff was very helpful and friendly. However they need to be retrained on how to disinfect the rooms and shampoo the carpets. The entire place didnt have the fresh recently cleaned and disinfected smell that you get when a place has been thoroughly cleaned. The "business" center consists of a snack trolley type of desk which was dirty and a computer. The carpets not only needed shampoo, but they weren't vacuumed either. I took my socks off in my room and you could feel and see that the carpet was way past its shampoo time. The fridge was rusty, the coffee maker looked like it had never been used it was dusty inside, the curtains had little holes. And Breakfast was none existant. You had 2 cereals, some apples, coffee, juice, and milk. And it wasnt enough for all the people staying there. If you came down past 7 it's gone. The clientele there appear to be people in transition from programs or are homeless, there was a woman who asked the desk clerk for help and the response was I'm very business, I dont have time to run when you ask for something. The woman clearly was no vacationer and had complained that she was treated better in days inn in Brooklyn. Not knocking the less fortunate, but if I'm paying at least let me know who you have staying there. Especially if I'm traveling with a small child. At the front desk theres a sign, no drugs allowed. Hillsborough police dept makes unannounced checks of the motel. Now I know that's not people from the neighborhood, it's people being brought in to stay there. The front is littered with cigarette butts. My first night, the TV was broken, I must say that they did fix it right away. My issue is not with the staff. My issue is with whomever the manager is, he needs to do a better job at running the place. The staff will perform as well as the training they receive.
