Nice town to spend a night or two. Beautiful and historic. Plan to take a ferry to one of the islands to see the wild horses (you'll find them, but can't get too close). If not a boater and don't want to travel to nearby larger towns, just a place for a day or two. If willing to visit nearby communities (neighboring Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, etc.), there's plenty to do. We went off season so, as we anticipated, little activity going on; still, definitely met our expectations.

Most hotels have switched to a sliding barn style door for the bathroom. This still boggles my mind. It does not lock and there is a 1 inch gap between the door and wall where anyone in the room can see you in the shower.

General store has great Maple Nut Fudge. Has the small town beach vibe. Last time I was here I went on a sunset dolphin cruise and would have loved to went this time if I'd had longer. Crystal Coast Lady was the cruise company.

    Lots of fun.

Lots of fun. We took the ferry to Shakleford Island, saw dolphins and wild horses. Also went down the road to Harkers Island and took the ferry to the Cape Lookout lighthouse. Spent time shopping and dining. Moonrakers and the Dock House were great. Beaufort Cafe was not good. Took over an hour to get our food with only 6 tables in the restaurant that were seated. Then we got the wrong food.

One of our favorite places to visit often.

One of our favorite places to visit often. Small, walkable town with a big heart. Many restaurants and shops to keep you busy. Black sheep has great pizza. ‘Moonrakers‘ has wonderful views on the top deck. The fairy services are convenient and easy to navigate. Golf carts are allowed on a few main roads which is a fun way to get around.
