The place was great, nicely decorated and very clean, although we were only staying overnight on our trip from France to Porto. The host was very nice in coming to greet us after hours, and we managed to explain ourselves somehow with me not speaking Portuguese. A complimentary fruit basket was a very nice touch. Our Burmese cat was accepted without any issue (or cost) and seemingly also felt very comfortable.

Everything from the historical perspective, quality of furnishings, breakfast. But best was the owner Louis. Guided tour even his childhood toys. A great conversationalist we had good talks together. The pool was available and the building is truly unique in the modern high rise world of hotels. The town is not overwhelming but next door Don Antonio (check name) restaurant is marvellous at simple, home cooked Portuguese fare. Try salted cod.. Wow. The whole ambience is special, I felt I was the resident of my own medieval castle, but in a good way Garage and access great for bikes
