Hôtel Atiapiti, hotel in Opoa

Located on a private white sand beach, Hôtel Atiapiti offers bungalows and a villa with free Wi-Fi and private patio with ocean or garden views. Each has mosquito nets and a living room with a TV.

The staff were very kind and accommodating, putting up with our terrible French. The manager/owner was especialy helpful. Amazing remote absolute beach front location off the coral gardens and right next door to the Marae Taputapuatea. Breakfast and lunch and local take out dinner they organised for a Sunday were good.

Fare Oviri Lodge, hotel in Opoa

Overlooking a private white sandy beach, Fare Oviri Lodge offers Polynesian-style bungalows with a private patio and lovely mountain and sea views.

The individual Japanese-inspired lodges were private and beautifully zen, complete with mosquito nets and a ceiling fan (no AC). The lodges with kitchenettes were not available during our stay but the shared kitchen was well equipped and each lodge had a designated refrigerator shelf and pantry shelf. There were no amenities provided so you have to bring everything with you. You can request breakfast and pizza at night for extra charge. We arrived via ferry to Ra’iatea on Sunday and learned that most of the shops and restaurants are closed all or most of the day. Alcohol is also not sold on Sunday afternoons. So, it would be better for shopping, eating and stocking up to arrive and leave on a day other than Sunday. There also is no shuttle or public transport to the Lodge so you need to rent a car. The drive from the airport or ferry landing takes at least 40 minutes on a narrow winding road repleat with scooters, dogs, chickens and pedestrians. Having said all that, the grounds and location are lovely as are the hosts Ketty and Moerii. The garden ends in a narrow strip of sandy beach that looks out to the nearby mouth of the bay. You can see and hear the surf rolling in. You can read and relax or paddle a kayak to the motu to snorkel (there is equipment to borrow). It was a lovely place to chill out.

Fare Tapu, hotel in Opoa

Featuring a garden, a year-round outdoor pool and garden views, Fare Tapu is located in Uturoa. There is a private entrance at the homestay for the convenience of those who stay.

Everything. The room was so clean, nicely decorated, excellent AC, bathroom, kitchen, high ceilings and amenities. The hosts were responsive and friendly. There was a gate and parking for my rental car, and the location was close to the airport and town so it was perfect!

Pension Les Trois Cascades, hotel in Opoa

Pension Les Trois Cascades offers accommodation in Uturoa. The guest house has a BBQ, children's playground and terrace, and guests can enjoy a drink at the snack bar.

It is easily accessible from the airport and on the main road round the island. The rooms are large and spacious scrupulously clean. The shared kitchen, toilets and showers are also kept scrupulously clean. There are self-catering kitchen facilities. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful fetching dinner from various take-aways. Portions are massive and would easily feed 2. Despite the slightly disappointing breakfast it does include wonderful home-made vanilla yoghurt - real vanilla, a delight. If I had known about the details of the Excursion Bleu day trip by boat round Tama’a I would have done that. It looked really interesting. I would recommend trying that. It is run by the same family.

La Maison Du Voyage, hotel in Opoa

Just 80 metres from the Lagoon access to Sea view, La maison Du Voyage offers a relaxed tropical haven with free snorkelling equipment.

We loved everything about our experience and stay with Isabella and Edward. They are wonderful hosts and their property is clean and in a fabulous location. You will need a car to travel to them. You should hire a car anyway to see the entire island, its gorgeous. We enjoyed conversing with the other guests during our stay and the breakfast of bread and fresh fruit was delightful. We highly recommend staying at La Maison Du Voyage and look forward to going back!

This is definitely off the beaten track.

This is definitely off the beaten track. Finding a restaurant to eat out was tough. We were turned down by 2 small hotels with restaurants. Both restaurants were empty but we didn't have a reservation - maybe they didn't have enough food on hand? We found the only other place - a "hole in the wall" snack shop by the side of the road which had lots of food choices and they were glad to feed us.

Awesome place to stay, from the activitiy was excellent right from pickup at the hotels wharf to going to the passage by the sea where waka came through and left to arrival by sea to Marae Taputapuatea and its history to an excursion up the river then to motu Iriru for lunch, swim and chilaxing.
