There was a Sink in my room which was convenient, I appreciated the little things like free milk for tea and coffee. I also enjoyed having a tv in my room which had back to the future playing.

The beach access, wild and rugged, easily accessible along the coast. If you into photography plenty of opportunities for great photos or painting. The kids loved the glow worms, it was not a big walk to view them - 20 meters of the roadside and free, you are able to make a donation at start of the trail for maintenance and upkeep of track, which would be wheelchair accessible. We went to the local picture theatre, seating and service very good. The glass blowing is amazing to watch, the kids and adults were quite intrigued. Shanty town was a great day trip, riding the train, learning early history of the coast - the best scones and coffee in the cafe, coming back to our base in Hokitika. If you are planning to dine in Hokitika then I would advise you book on arrival if you are spending a couple of days, if just overnight then google and book before you arrive, at evening dinner you are in competition with bus tours.

Nice town with some interesting information and artwork. Good location for visiting nearby places of interest, such as Ross (fantastic museum and hotel bar here) and the beautiful Lake Kaniere. Stayed only two nights, could have easily stayed four or five.

Hokitika is a welcoming town with a fascinating history set in a stunning landscape. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area - Lake Kaniere, the Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, the Treetops walk and the gold town of Ross.

Lovely quirky beach town.
Lovely quirky beach town. So many walks and adventures on your doorstep. Really central for exploring the West Coast. Free activities close by, loved the glow worm cave and chips while watching the sunset. Very chilled, cool place. We were very lucky it didn’t rain while we were there and we miraculously missed the sandflies. Make sure you take spray for sandflies! If you like long walks then this is the place to go for some spectacular scenery.

Hokitika is nice and central to activity up and down the west coast, and there are lots of things to see and do. We had dinner at Stumpers and initially we thought the prices seemed high, but the food portions were huge and so tasty I would definitely go back. We did the Glacier helicopter ride in Franz Josef and The Shantytown and Monteith Brewery in Greymouth. We also visited the gorge but that was all we had time for. Loads of walks and other sites to see we just didn't have time.

Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true.
Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true. There are lots of things to do. The beach is a major attraction with a long area to walk and good sunset views. The town has some lovely greenstone shops and artisans. I always buy something when I'm in Hokitika. There are short walks, Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere nearby.
We found our room at the Woodstock Hotel to be the best of our whole trip! It felt like the accommodation had been recently built as it was quite modern, the room was large, the bathroom was spacious and the bed and pillows were the best we'd found on the trip and perfect for us!
We enjoyed being able to take our meals back to our room from the bar and chill out there.
The location is a quick 5 min drive from downtown Hokitika and the view of the river is amazing! We preferred staying here to being in town anyday!
Amazing location just outside Hokitika. Comfy bed and very big and clean bathroom. Best location for access to the beach with mountain views on the front side. Also fantastic star gazing on a clear night. There is an old chair lift on the property overlooking the beach where we thoroughly enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sunset. The hosts were readily available for any questions or concerns.
The hotel is central and my room was clean, big, cozy and the bathroom large.
I had a kattle and fridge in the room and right outside my room there was a kitchenette corner with toaster, a microwave and kitchenware, so I could cook myself dinner and breakfast with no issue.
Price is very good compared to other accomodation in NZ.
The Shining Star Beachfront units were amazing. Such clean, bright and spacious log cabins which overlooked the ocean. They also had a washer and dryer which was very handy. We only stayed one night which was unfortunate because we would have loved to hang out for longer. I would strongly recommend this location.
Great location for families, couples or individuals. They have lots of recreational activities like a full jungle gym, bounce pillow, foosball and ping pong tables as well as individual and communal cooking spaces and a rec room. The individual cabins have everything you need and are very private.
The property was clean and tidy with all the facilities that I would expect for a comfortable stay. The playground was perfect to keep the kids entertained whilst adults relaxed outside the cabins. Just a short walk to Hokitika town.
Easiest check in ever! Close to town and in a quiet neighborhood. We loved the comfortable bed and the couches. The kitchen had a full size frig and everything we needed to cook our breakfast. These little cabins are perfect.
Located in the west coast town of Hokitika, this lovely home was clean, well equipped and walkable to town. Having three bedrooms for the three was great! Can’t praise the accommodation and ease of dealing with our host enough!
Stayed previously and standards remain high. Just disappointed that breakfast wasn't included in the rate and so it worked out quite expensive when adding breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Best accommodation in Hokitika by far.
Location was ideal; staff were helpful and there was an arrangement with a nearby restaurant / hotel to get 15% off the food costs for a meal. We used this on the first night and it was very good
beautiful country property 2 minutes from Hokitika. Comfortable beds, large rooms with private ensuite.
Includes full breakfast which was a great way to start the day. Highly recommend.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly (thank you Sue).
Locals hang out at the bar in the evenings which adds a nice vibe to the place.
