The breakfast was great. It had something for everyone. Plenty of choices including fresh fruit. The hot breakfast items were kept fresh and hot. The hours of operation were perfect for getting food before heading out to see the city.
Located a 30-minute drive from Alta city center, between the arctic tundra and the arctic sea you will find Gargia Lodge, surrounded by nature.

The location, surrounded by nature (but easy-to-drive road from Alta) was very scenic. The wi-fi worked well, The room had character. THere is convenient food available for many hours starting in the late afternoon. This was a buffet of three casseroles (we liked all three, so that was good), with good bread. Beer etc. available. Silent at night.
Offering a barbecue and children's playground, Alta River Camping is located in Alta in the Finnmark Region. The Rock art of Alta is 2.2 mi from the property.

The location was great, the host was super helpful, with great recommendations about where to go. And of course the dog was the added bonus!

Absolutely loved our stay. We spent five weeks in Scandinavia and stayed in over two dozen lodgings, this was in the top five! Comfortable accommodations and wonderful food, but what really makes Bjornfjell special is the staff. Everybody was so pleasant!
On average, 3-star hotels in Alta cost $163 per night, and 4-star hotels in Alta are $194 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Alta can be found for $483 per night, on average (based on Booking.com prices).
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.

I came for the museums and some quiet relaxation, and got plenty of that! Lovely town with good food and lovely people. The weather in June was grand... nice during the day, cooler at night. A fan was all I needed to be cool enough to sleep. The local taxi company got me around town with ease, though their is a bus I never tried out. I sadly do not speak any Norwegian, and I was able to get around with ease.

Alta is a town that is difficult to reach in winter, so it is good to make reservations as late as possible to get a refund without penalty. Accommodation owners and tour operators will take your money and not refund you even if you prove that you didn't arrive in Alta due to weather (cancelled planes or planes that were unable to land).

Be sure to p pick the right time of year.
Be sure to p pick the right time of year. The summer season is very short and several museums and other places close at the end of August. September we found to be relatively fine as well as October. We found that some places were closed whether this was because of the end of season or still related to Covid is/was uncertain.
Alta Museum and its rock drawings and other Sami history is very interesting and informative. The Northern Lights (Nordlys) Cathedral stands dominant in the centre of town and well worth a visit. Obviously at this particular tie of year the Northern Lights are always a possibility.

There are many grocery shops some of which are very large.
There are many grocery shops some of which are very large. We could find gluten free food
The views of the mountains and bay are very nice when it’s sunny
The rock carvings museum is definitely a place to visit
I recommend the Vanvitting Grill for the excellent raindeer burger with strawberry sauce
Beautiful boutique hotel, incredible food, amazing staff, and wonderful vibe around the hotel generally. We didn't want to leave! Everything is awesome about this hotel - if you're considering it, book it!! You won't regret it!! Also make sure to eat here frequently and book the tasting menu if you have time - the owner is a truly terrific chef. He worked as a chef for the prime minister for many years and his food is out of this world excellent and he has fantastic wine selections to match as well!!
The room was big and everything was beautifully decorated at the hotel. The breakfast was amazing! We didnt have view at our room so we really liked that there were common space upstairs and downstairs with panorama windows where we could chill and watch the beautiful sea view. Even though there was no staff present the whole time the check in and check out went really smooth. Hotel staff sent messages via booking site and replied to my messages. We warmly recommend this hotel :)
Johnny was amazing! He thought of every little thing to make us enjoy our stay. The cabin was beautiful, and we saw a spectacular Northern lights show. The sleigh ride was perfect....I love the Norweigen Fjord horse...Timion. We were able to get close and pet him. Everything about the stay was exceptional, hot tub, homemade breakfast, nature hikes...absolutely competes with the Grande Hotel, Oslo. Flatmoen Natur has better service by far! Can't wait to come back!
We loved the ice hotel carvings.. It was so unique and beautiful. Definitely worth upgrading to a suite if possible. The breakfast was delicious as well. Several downsides of the hotel include- cost for extra things such as using the hot tub or sauna, also don't recommend the bus driving northern lights tour [very poor forecast and no option to change activities, cancel or try again another day]. We drove around for 2 hours and the guide barely spoke to us.
This boutique hotel was a fantastic combination of my two loves: dogs and food. The hotel is home to dog-sledding huskies (Trine) and a phenomenal restaurant (Trasti). We stayed in one of the bungalows and it was very comfortable, cosy and kept us warm during the deep winter of January. Breakfast had a beautiful home-cooked feel and the dinners we had felt like fine dining. They also have the most extensive wine collection I've every seen in a restaurant.
Bed was very big and comfy, bathroom was very clean. The breakfast was great, as always when staying at a Scandic hotel. They had lotd of options, including gluten free and vegetarian, vegan and raw vegan. Fresh products, there were lots of tables so even when most people came to eat, you didn't feel crowded. We had to check out very early in the morning, so they were kind to provide a breakfast bag (you have to ask the night before).

Honestly, it was my first time to Alta and 30 seconds into my stay the staff made me feel welcome. The breakfast was generous, the hotel was clean, quiet, and additional information was very available. I could not have felt more at home. Walking around the town was grand, and taxis were easy to call & get to take you all over.
Visit end Sep 23. One of my top 3 hotels out of over 30 I stayed at during my 5 week trip in Norway. Beautiful location with exceptional rooms, spaces and the most helpful and friendly staff out of all the places I stayed. Amazing food and ambiance. Contemporary and eclectic. Will definitely be back!
Beautiful modern lodge a short ride outside of Alta with breathtaking mountain views. Outdoor warm jacuzzi and indoor sauna was very enjoyable. Kitchen well equipped and rooms were clean and well furnished with towels and bedding. Communication with the host was great - would love to be back soon.
This place is SO GOOD. We stayed in some very fancy Alta accommodation which was great, but we absolutely LOVED our nights at Alta River Camping. The photos do not do the place justice. It is so cute, AMAZING value for money, great location and SO FUN! One of the best places we stayed on our trip.
Good location close but outside Alta. Nice cabin. Very friendly and helpful staff member. He did his best to allow for the heating of my car during the night (-20 C). The are only a few electricity plugs on the camp side and wire extension was necessary to reach these due to the snow.
Amazing location, food and staff. The breakfast was fantastic. The views from the room were stunning. Unfortunately it was cloudy, so we didn't see the Aurora, but if it was clear, we would have had the best view. Warm and cozy. The dinner was expensive, but worth every penny.
It was a unique experience but probably best only done for one night. You can arrive earlier but you don't get your roo. Until 8pm as the ice hotel is open to visitors until then. So you have to wait in the rest area until then. Over all it was worth it and I would recommend.
This is a standard business hotel in the center of Alta. Everything works and rooms are quite and confortable. Next to a shopping centre, good selection of restaurants nearby. Excellent breakfast.
Nice breakfast. Perfect service at the reception. Hotel provided early check-in once room was available, which was very nice. Perfect location. Good internet connection.
