A nice vibrant hotel. There was an interesting mix of students that lived in part of the hotel long term and hotel guests. The table tennis tables were a nice addition. We were given a nice room that had a good view!

Groningen is a beautiful city , I would prefer it to Amsterdam . It is a nice size, there's loads to see and do. The Groninger Museum always has terrific exhibitions and the building itself is amazing. The Ship Museum is excellent also . There is a lovely ambience with many cosy cafes and bars and great eateries such as the Drei Gezusters. We had great takeaway food at the Vis Markt , the Kibbeling is very tasty and the portions everywhere are generous.
As it is a University city , there is a lively student atmosphere,
We walked everywhere as everything is accessible. It is a wonderful spot for a city break.

We liked this time a lot because of the boat tour through the town and our visit to Groninger museum with the Rolling Stones exhibition. We had diner at the Branderij and at Eetcafe de Slingerij. Both good quality for a fine price and kind staff.

Groningen is a lovely univeristy town easily reached by train. Taking a walk through the center to visit the almshouses (there is a good guidebook for that) and their gardens was a pleasant way to get to know the city. A big plus is that there is no mass tourism as in Amsterdam, mostly day trippers from the area or just across the river from Germany.

I would definitely recommend Groningen as a place to visit.
I would definitely recommend Groningen as a place to visit. It is a little gem. It’s easily reached from Schipol airport by a direct train that takes just over 2 hours.
I only discovered it as I found Dutch family that live here. Definitely recommend as a change from Amsterdam. The town has plenty of shops and restaurants, museums and a canal. Everything is accessible by foot or local buses. Just be aware of the cyclists.

Groningen is a very lovely smaller town with a nice old town surrounded by water canals. In the city I spent most of my time at a conference at the university, whose campus itself is very interesting and I had the opportunity to see the particle accelerator there as part of the excursion - certainly very interesting for those interested in (bio)physics and (radio)medicine. In my free time I walked through the old town and around the canals, which was very nice and romantic. The same could be said of the walking path from the city to the university area, which led through beautiful, almost wild countryside along horse paddocks, one arm of the river, among meadows, etc. The town also offers great gourmet experiences. I was only able to spend a few days in the city, so unfortunately I didn't have a chance to explore the surrounding area.
A very nice place to stay while in Groningen- great location by the lake, so you have beautiful views and peacefulness. Can't walk to the city center though - it's a bit far, but there is a bus stop nearby. You can also rent a bike at the hotel (or a boat!). Spacious free parking just at the front. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Clean and comfortable rooms although might give you a gloomy impression at first due to dark interior design. Very quiet. Worth recommending! :)
Nothing to complain about. I have stayed in so many hotels that I am fairly jaded by now. However, for the price paid I was very happy with the amenities, and especially with the superior breakfast provided daily. I wish comparable hotels in the US, who no longer provide daily cleaning, not to mention anything else, for their exorbitant prices, would begin to learn from their global colleagues on what hospitality business is about.
Extremely nice hotel right in the heart of the city. I need to point out that especially the staff is just wonderfull! You feel very welcome as they interact with you in a very nice and personal way with a good sense of humour. I highly recommend this hotel and I‘ll book it again if I‘m ever back in Groningen.
Breakfast was standard fare, Continental choices, cooked options etc and fine for a buffet style, but on the pricy side. Hotels in Groningen are never 'cheap' so relatively good value for the city, well/conveniently located for the centre but parking expensive.
Conveniently located in Groningen city centre, 10-15 minutes easy walk from the station, staff were extra friendly and helpful, free tea and coffee in reception is a nice touch.
Extra comfy bed, nice room service, great to have nespresso machine in room.
The hotel is well located in the centre of Groningen. It is a very well kept building and I wish I'd had time to visit the bar/restaurant as it looked very nice. The room appeared small but made up for it with a mezzanine that led to the bathroom.
perfect hotel in the city of groningen, everything is within walking distance.
very good breakfast with wide choice. The room was very clean and spacious, and is taken care of daily, bathrobes / slippers / coffee / tea / is present in the room.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and well-supplied and the bar and breakfast had plenty of options to cater for all. The hotel is also situated in a great part of the city that is easy to get to and get around from.
i always use this hotel if i am visiting Groningen, it is close to the city with free parking and the rooms are spaceous and comfortable.
the restaurant is great if you want to use it. the staff is friendly and very helpful!
Good solid hotel, perfect for students who want to be in the middle of the action. The courtyard was buzzing every night with partygoers. We loved being in the middle of the action, but not everyone would.
A Nice hotel in a Nice place, walking distance to the centre of Groningen. The room was nice with lots of attention for detail. Breakfast was good. Good coffee! Staff friendly.
We loved the location and the unique properties of this hotel. Staying in a refurbished water tower was amazing! We will stay here again when in Groningen.
