This was my first trip to Japan and I wanted to have an authentic experience of Japanese culture. Akasawa Ryokan not only provided traditional onsen experience in Ryokan but also offered great hospitality to get places around the town. As a foreigner traveling Japan for the first time, I felt so welcomed. Also I really enjoyed breakfast and dinner there as well, which were delicious and authentic. Unforgettable experience at Akasawa Ryokan. I would love to go back.

The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs.
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs. It has the Shiobara hot spring village, which has a rich spring quality and has been loved by royalty and literary masters. You can enjoy the traditional hot springs surrounded by nature in spite of the easy access from Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen, which is just an hour away from Tokyo. Each hot spring in the city is different in scale and taste, but it is an adult resort where you can spend your luxurious time by soaking in the hot spring to your heart’s content.

There were several nice hikes near the hotels. It was interesting to see the steaming mountain and very large hot spring at the top of the trail. We stayed at Dai-ichi Takimotokan and really enjoyed their extensive hot springs.

The breakfast buffet was mostly Japanese food which my son and I loved. For the price we booked two single rooms and had plenty of space. Elevators were speedy with little wait time. When we requested no room service, fresh towels were placed in a bag outside our door which was nice.
The building is a little old, but that adds to the charm I think. We've stayed in new hotels, 4 star hotels, but appreciate the more homey atmosphere of budget hotels - especially with such nice staff.
If you have a train buff in your family/group - you will love watching the bullet trains zip by right across the street.
