Far away from any city, the hotel offers large rooms, an onsen, a golf... I was lucky to have a balcony overlooking the golf, and the view was both peaceful and beautiful. Sherry on the cake: the breakfast is good and good value for money.

Loved the location. The host was very kind, with many kind gifts and attentions for the guests. We loved the discounted tickets for the Onsen closeby and all the advices on what to do on a rainy day on Aso.
Everything is very clean.
Futon beds were quite comfortable.

Beautifully prepared Japanese breakfast. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Real traditional Japanese room ( which in our case it was exactly what we wanted) Private onsen each evening , which was fantastic .
Traditional Japanese clothes and slippers throughout stay.
Located amid nature at the base of Mount Aso, El Patio Ranch offers a retreat in a Western American theme, with horse-back riding, a Western goods shop and American barbecue.

The hotel room has a magnificent view. We can see the grass field and sunrise in the morning. The hotel room is excellent, neat, clean, comfortable and tidy. The staff was nice and helpful. We went for the horse riding tour the other day and the staff were happy to explain the horses to us.

Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.

Unfortunately access to the crater is still prohibited due to the risk of toxic gases, but the surrounding area is impressive. For those keen on a hard nature walk you can walk up the steep trail of the neighbouring peak and look down into the crater from there. Allow a good half a day or more to do this!
Amazing location being literally opposite the train station by walking. Couple minutes walk from 7/11.
Must be quite new? Considering the facilities/decor/modernity was 10/10. Loved room layout with the sliding partition door. Loved bathroom mirror setup (very clever). Absolutely spacious. (keep in mind i did pay for Standard King room)
Got the view of Mt Aso, except weather wasn't kind.
Shared kitchen/lounge area in lobby was beautiful too. Large shared dining table with charging ports.
I wished i stayed longer!
I can only rate this place as 10/10. It's what you would expect from a Ryokan, and more. Specifically, i'd say two things are better than other great Ryokan, the onsen (private suites with windows that can be opened to "transform" the main room into a rotemburo at will) and the kaiseki dinner, where chu-toro, basashi and marbled beef were on the menu. Apart from an extensive sake menu. Other than that, the owners / team managing it are super nice and helpful. Perfect place to enjoy before/after an Aso trek.
El Patio is in a beautiful part of Aso National Park and the room had an amazing view. It’s quiet and feels connected to the environment. The horses and the stables gave the whole place a rustic and Western vibe. The food was warm and hearty, perfect for cold winter nights. The staff were so kind and helpful, they were worried my rental car did not have winter tires (I stayed during a snow storm) and went to lengths notifying me in advance and making sure I would be safe driving on the roads.
The house is a beautiful traditional Japanese house with a shared onsen bath and a private one that you can book for free. The room is clean and cozy with a window looking out to a Japanese garden. Food was exceptional! We were served homemade miso soup and home grown rice which were absolutely delicious. The meals also include many local ingredients and dishes like horse meat, local beef, trout and seasonal veggies. Highly recommended if you want a traditional ryokan experience 👍
Jumping from 3 to 4 stars has been a great experience. I liked everything, especially dinner and breakfast. The classic japanese style room was pleasant and peaceful and the mountains view was gorgeous. The onsen is of course a plus and there is a shuttle to the train station. I don't see what could be better than this . Better to book half board because there is nothing nearby to provide food. Unless you have a car or book a taxi. An absolute awesome stay.
I feel a bit concern of resort quality by reading review from many sources. But it is over my expectation, resort is great with super value price. Resort is big with many facilities: hot springs, pool, restaurant, shop with great scenic of Aso mountain. Room is also great with restroom and bath inside (yes many hotel or ryokan have no bath include if they have onsen in public but with this hotel u have option for clean urself)
Location is the best - Mt. Aso view from the room window was super impressive. I love the public area too that the combination of Japanese and Western fireplace blended very well. Kitchenware is available to use, free coffee & tea to make.
There's a hot spring place in 3-5 mins walk that you could purchase a discount ticket 300 yen from the hostel (normal price is 400 yen), relaxing and highly recommended
The room was spacious for a dormitory type, we were very comfortable during our stay. The room and the whole place feels cozy and felt like you're actually in your own home. It's a wonderful place to stay in Aso which is conveniently located near the station and the place is very clean as well. The staff were great and helpful too! I would stay there again of I ever come back to Aso.
Beautiful house with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay for several days. A real entertainer's home with nice little touches, like a charcoal burner room, kotatsu in the living room, guitar and entertainment system. There was also a washing machine, full bath, BBQ outside, and full kitchen with condiments. If I am in Mt Aso again I will stay here.
I really wasn’t sure about my booking when U got off the quick train ride from Aso Station but once I went inside and was warmly greeted I knew I had made a good choice. The facility is clean, the food plentiful and delicious, and really everything else was just great. I very much enjoyed my stay.
We really enjoyed staying at this traditional Ryokan. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese cuisine served by very respectful waitresses. Its well located for Mt Aso. We had our own private onsen which was an excellent way to end the day. We highly recommend staying at Aso Tsuruya
The hotel is new, modern, and nice. Eventhough the room is small but it is well designed and we can stay very comfortably. There is coin washing machine+dryer available in the hotel. Walking distance to restaurants and convenient stores. Staffs are nice and accommodating.
Auntie Tomo is an amazing host, and will inform you about Aso, and the city around her house if that is where you intend to go. The house has a few other rooms but once you go to retire to yours, you hardly notice the others.
Our first time staying at a traditional Japanese inn. My daughter had done the research and chosen the spot. The location was amazing and I would definitely stay there again. The breakfast and onsen were fantastic!
The staff is enthusiastic and kind. Although the bathroom and toilet are shared, they provide a private room. For such a price in the area, I think everything's reasonable.
