Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory...
Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory days ended a few decades ago when the government cracked down on the racket of subsidising holidays in such places through the national health system. So the hotels here have not seen a lot of investment recently. On the other hand their simplicity is matched by their good value.
It still has a lot going for it - it is located in a beautiful area in the mountains of Abruzzo, close to the Maiella National Park, and is re-inventing itself as a centre for trekking, canoeing and such things.
The old town - downhill from the modern town with its 1960s-era hotels, is picturesque.
In the main street you will find a few bars, a couple of restaurants and a "birreria". All those I tried were good.
If you want to spend a couple of days walking in spectacular scenery, and don't mind old-fashioned but hospitable accommodation, this would be an excellent place in which to base yourself.

It's a really beautiful, clean, well-kept village.
It's a really beautiful, clean, well-kept village. It is a short walk from the centre to the entrance to the national park which is a wonderful, natural place. Although we didn't actually see any wildlife to speak of, we did hear bears calling and saw traces of deer. It's cooler than the lower altitude areas in summer, and the air is fresh, so it's a great place to get away to.

Perfecto, house away from the town.
Perfecto, house away from the town. The thermal baths however were difficult to book as they only open half a day and you must book before hand.
Perfetto, la casa è lontana dal paese, in mezzo al bosco. Tranquilissimo. Però per prenotare per per le terme è complicato e lavorano solo fino alle 13h30 dal lunedì al sabato.

Optimal place to stay for those who like hikeing/biking/...
Optimal place to stay for those who like hikeing/biking/tourskiing.
Many itineraries begin closeby. The dinners are ensured to be superb: the local cuisine is among the best of Italy. I strongly recommend the rastaurant "La Noce": you'll surely enjoy. Many locals would recommend "La collina del cavaliere", but thre they serve too large portions and after the appetizer you won't finish the first dish.

Perfect location to explore the Valle dell' Orfento national...
Perfect location to explore the Valle dell' Orfento national park and other of Italy's neglected natural wonders. Not a lot of tourists or infrastructure for tourism but the views of forests surrounded by snow capped mountains are incredible. Lots of good hiking and birding in the area. Surprisingly good food which is different from other parts of Italy, including a lot of lamb dishes. Do your research before arriving as not much help is available. Everyone we encountered was friendly and tried to help us but most did not speak English. You should have a car for exploring the Abruzzo area in Italy. Not always the best roads so drive with care. If you have time, next to the nearby Gole del Sagittario nature reserve you can hike or drive to the remote hill town Castrovulva. A challenge either way but doable and rewarding.

Explore guest reviews of hotels in Caramanico Terme
we reached Caramanico and Hotel Viola from Pescara by public transport. hotel Viola is close to the bus stop so in 5 minutes walking time we were at the hotel. all went smoothly. We found everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay at this hotel. The restaurant offered delicious local cuisine and great pizza with a good value for money. The town of Caramanico is a little town (borgo) in the heart of the Maiella park. From the hotel it was easy to reach many paths like ‘Le scalelle’ in the Orfento valley.
Hotel Ede is in the perfect location for exploring Majella National Park. Very clean and comfortable accommodation with plenty of parking, excellent food (we highly recommend dinner - the food was very well done) and very welcoming hosts who speak Italian and English. Really helpful with local excursions too such as trekking and horse riding.
Caramanico is a gorgeous small village deep in the heart of the Majella mountains, starting point for several fantastic hiking trails. A friendly and helpful staff runs this lovely hotel very close to both the spa and the Visitor centre. We had a large comfortable room with a balcony and delicious breakfast and dinner.
The breakfast was absolutely excellent, home cooked and extensive. As a solo traveller, I felt very safe and at a home away from home! I can't wait to return to Hotel Mazzocca again! The view from the balconies out to the national park where also exceptional.
This is a family run hotel and the lady owner incredibly helpful. She managed to arrange a dinner reservation, despite all the restaurants in Caramanico being closed on the night of our stay.
Breakfast was very good.
Location is fantastic
Locanda del Barone is a beautiful, family run hotel situated in idyllic surroundings, with very friendly staff and exquisite, locally sourced food and wine. Thank you to the family for being such kind hosts. We loved every minute of it!
Very nice host, very authentic italian hospitality!
The house is located at the edge of Caramanico Terme, parking is ca 150m away. This is a great place to feel like beeing really in Abruzzo!
Wonderful family run hotel. We had a really lovely stay here. The food at breakfast and dinner was fantastic. Very happy we chose the Arimannia and will definitely stay here again.
