Hotel Rangá, hotel in Hella

Featuring a stargazing observatory on site, this luxury hotel is in an idyllic remote location next to the Rangá salmon river in Hella.

We loved everything about Hotel Rangá. The staff were all lovely and super helpful. The room was really comfortable with a lovely jacuzzi bath in the en-suite. We were lucky to have a north facing room so got a really good view of the Northern Lights. There is an aurora wake up service but we were already up mesmerised by the show outside. The observatory was open on the night we stayed too which was really interesting. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but breakfast the next day was one of the best we’ve had in Iceland. So much choice with hot and cold options. We will definitely return in the future.

Tindasel Lodge, hotel in Hella

Located in Hella, 36 km from Seljalandsfoss, Tindasel Lodge provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

The hotel is brand new and very well located, just 10 minutes from Road 1. Bernat is a lovely, attentive host, with also good advice on things to do in the area. The rooms are new and very comfortable. The sauna, jacuzzi and cold bath after a long day at the Golden Circle were a real treat, especially with the gorgeous view that comes with. Breakfast was also very good. Make the most of it, prices are low at the moment! We nearly felt guilty to be the only guests during the night we stayed, we hope that a hidden gem like this will soon be fully booked everyday, that's the least we wish for all the efforts they made !

Landhotel, hotel in Hella

Set 27 km from Hella and 12 km from Laugaland, Landhotel features a garden, bar and free WiFi. Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also provides guests with a restaurant.

Breakfast is buffet style - both hot and cold / chilled options are available. All freshly prepared and well presented. Really good quality and included in our booking price. Bread was freshly baked and a little bit too nice for my waistline. Zero complaints - compliments only. Evening meals are from a fairly limited menu but the quality is fantastic (if expensive). Rooms are best described as quirky style with a concrete, wood and tubular steel modern design. Very comfortable, clean and well presented. Room calls for any visible aurora (regular) are optional. Dark skies make the spectacle more vivid.

    Hella a bit sparse.

Hella a bit sparse. No good restaurants that we found and they stop serving at 9pm. Not much to Hella but it was in the countryside and we saw the Northern Lights. Our hotel was well lit so we could find it but they would not turn off the lights to view the Northern Lights better.

Small central town, great for staying at the igloos, and great for going all round. So nice to go east to Vik for the Katla ice caves, skogafoss and the waterfall hike, and Vik beach and west for kerid crater and blue lagoon and then north for gullfoss and the geysers. The town itself has a small supermarket, nice bakery and okay places to eat. Looks pretty with the mountains to the side.

We were not happy with the accommodation.

We were not happy with the accommodation. The front desk staff were disorganized. We were told a day before check that we would have 2 cabins instead of the 2 rooms we booked in the main hotel. When we arrived we were told we would get 2 cabins. When we checked I across the street, we were told we had one cabin which was a downgrade for us. One adult had to sleep in an upper bunk bed and the cabin was smelly , some windows did not fully close and the main door did not lock. We were quite disappointed in the accommodations. The cabin was not in good shape. We specifically booked 2 rooms to get 2 bathrooms period. Based in all of this, we would like to request a partial refund.

Beautiful, clean, modern home with spectacular views. Location of home is quiet, on a horse farm, about 30 minutes from the main town of Selfoss. It was a good location to explore the south. We would stay there again!

Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking. 1.

Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking. 1. Unacceptable reason of overbooking in real time booking system especially we have fully paid. 2. The selection of customers for relocation is not transparent, not logical and also not acceptable, especially we have fully paid in serval months (confirmed and paid on 4 Feb 2023 for the booking on 1-3 Aug) 3. We booked 3 rooms (7 persons) for 2 nights (1-3 Aug). Maybe pre-empting us can release more rooms for others, and maximize the revenue as we might paid less (booked in 6 months in advance) 4. Very short notice ie we received the relocation message at 16:18 on 1 Aug that we were on the way to Legendary Hotel Hella. I strongly believe the overbooking happened at least a month ago but I had only 2 hours notification time 5. 2 receptionists are inexperienced to handle such disaster issue. The manager, the decision maker, was hidden and not face to or talk to the customer directly. 2 Receptionists were not able to explain the situation nor to comport their customers. 6. We were relocated to Bru Country Estate, that required us to drive about 1 hour to there. 7. Hotel Hella booked 3 rooms for us (7 persons) in Bru Country Estate for us but there are only double rooms (no triple room) in Bru Country Estate. It created another problem during the careless relocation booking. 8. We booked a local tour to Highland on 2 Aug. The itinerary was changed and shorted due to longer travel time starting from Selfoss instead of Hella

I loved the place! It was our favourite house in our Icelandic trip. We were family of 5 and this house outside of Hella is just a paradise. Hot-tub is just lovely to have and Linda is wonderful to talk, very quick in replying. All was just perfect and I would love to come back! Kitchen is so stylish, Kjarval book of paintings was great to read and bathrobes were a cherry on top. I highly recommend this oasis. Takk fyrir!

We had a great stay at the Stracta Hotel in Hella. The room was everything we expected. The best part of our stay was the evening buffet. It was outstanding and the staff worked really hard to please us and make us feel at home. The food was so good and plentiful. There was a lot of choices for a very reasonable price. We recommend the Stracta hotel and especially the dinner buffet!

So welcoming, warm and comfortable coming in from a freezing cold day! Our barman was so friendly and told us about Icelandic Brinnavin and even made me a cocktail not on the menu, which was amazing! Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Staff directed us to a different hot pot when the usual ones were a bit cool. Breakfast was also exceptional and kept us going nearly all day!

We loved staying at Landhotel. The rooms were comfortable and cozy with lots of space to organize all of our hiking clothing each day. We were able to see the northern lights while we were there (great location off of the road and away from other properties). The hotel was easy to get in and out of and was a nice base for our adventures. Loved it!

Detail-oriented, luxury hotel, with outdoor hot tubs, excellent restaurant, wake up call for Aurora Borealis sightings, and a telescopic observatory. The owner himself was on sight, and helped facilitate the excitement of the Northern Lights that came out to greet us. All staff was friendly and welcoming. Everything added up to a memorable stay.

We stayed in one of the cabins on a November trip to Iceland. Easy to find location and lovely views in the daytime. The cabin was comfortable, warm and spacious for two and the kitchen well equipped (fridge and oven). It was very useful having the restaurant nearby (although we didn't eat there the night we stayed) and the staff were friendly.

I cannot say anything about the Hella Legendary Hotel because one day before my arrival they sent me a message to inform me that, due to overbooking, I was moved to another hotel (The South Coast Hotel) 30 km far from it. The South Coast Hotel was a good hotel, but it was not in the place I had previously chosen for my stay. It is not serious!

The property was amazing. The rooms were nice and cozy. Best I’ve slept while being in Iceland! Stu, one of the family members, was great! He made us an entire list of “things to see”. And added a few extras. Also, the “greeter”, Ilva (Border Collie) met us at our car to say hi. Highly recommend this hotel!

It's located right next to the Caves of Hella. The people who worked in the caves do not own this house, but they helped us more than once when we got stuck in the snow while in the driveway. We adore them. But there are lots of other, better places nearby. Skip this one.
