I was very happy with my stay at Blackhill woods. I didnt have much spare time as I was travelling for work. However I was extremely grateful to embrace the yoga practice hosted in Blackhill retreat in the evenings and to walk in the gardens. The blue bells were in full bloom are it was extremly fersh and tranquil.

Lovely place with every facility you can think of, interesting and kind owners who have lived in the area for several generations, great choices for breakfast, tucked away location, interesting walks in the area if it's not too muddy and wet

Everything was pristine. Beautiful carpark and grounds. Hearty, friendly welcome on arrival. Totally clean reception area, lift is clean and bright. Corridors perfect. The bedroom is totally perfect, the facilities are 100%. Excellent Nespresso coffee machine and tea making facilities.Bathroom, spacious and clean. Television channels worked without any problems. WiFi is excellent throughout the hotel. The bed is comfortable.
None of the above happens without the staff.
The reception and restaurant staff are friendly and efficient. A major asset to the hotel. The housekeeping staff are on top of their work.
Terrific value for money hotel.
We will be back.
Thank you.

Lovely heritage town, well kept with some nice eateries and pubs. Some nice walks to be had. Our stay wasn’t long enough to see everything so we will be back again. We had excellent coffee and scones in the Gallic Kitchen. Next time we look forward to sampling lunches
Location good. Breakfast was not a good experience. Left waiting 10 minutes after giving order while others wh came into breakfast room after us got served up breakfast before us . Had to ask for tea and toast. No pastries, just cereal and small cartons of juice that were just put on table in middle of room without even been taken out of boxed packaging. Breakfast nothing special, in fact it was probably the poorest breakfast I have had in a hotel in a long time.
Beautiful large house, perfect for a group get together in the lovely town of Abbeyleix. Everything is provided for in the house, beds are super comfy, lots of hot water, warm and cosy rooms, open fire, great cooking facilities. Abbeyleix has a delious bakery, very welcoming bars, plenty of food choice and a glorious bog walk. Ross tye host is very welcoming and happy to help with any request. We loved it and will be back.
The rooms are clean, beautiful, comfortable and well designed. The owners of Blackhill Woods are super welcoming and you feel right at home immediately! The gardens are the perfect place to sit and read a book, and the local town of Abbeyleix is only a 5 minute drive away. Breakfast is served to your room, with fresh fruit and gorgeous bread and yoghurt. I would highly recommend Blackhill to anyone.
Beautifully restored 300-year House full of history in the main street of Abbeyleix. A warm welcome from Ross and advice on where to go in the town for food. Our bedroom on the top floor was superb, full of old-world charm. The whole house is a walk back in time. Full kitchen available, and as there are only 5 rooms, it feels like you have the whole house to yourself. Can't wait to stay again.
The staff at the front desk were wonderful. We had a hiccup with the B & B that we had booked, and booked the last 2 rooms at your hotel, and were tired and frustrated when we arrived. The front desk agent (sorry cannot remember her name) was helpful, and when we came back down to ask for fans, she went looking for them herself, and delivered them to our rooms.
Breakfast very nice, catered for vegetarians. friendly staff in the morning at breakfast. The night porter was great when we left in the early hours of the morning, he gave us a takeaway breakfast and offered hot drinks for our journey. The near by walk (Collins bog loop) is nice, it is about one hour round trip, also cafe is convenient attached to the Hotel.
It's quite the experience! The old building, which use to be a school if I remember the hosts decscription correctly, has big old-style rooma and windows, a wonderful communal kitchen with everything you need for breakfast and more (even though it's more like a hotel) and beautiful dramatic dinner / tea rooms where you get to meet the other guests.
nice night away just prior to x mas
food lovely and desserts too compliments to Chloe who does the desserts.
bar staff waiting staff OK but maybe bit more interaction with customers as a recommendation...
cosy warm reception area and ideal from a night away with local bars near by also
Loved staying at Preston House. Preston House for me was the perfect refugee only a few blocks away from the beautiful center of Abbeyleix. Ross is an exceptional host, making his guests feel welcome
and at home. The building is stunning.
I liked everthing about Abbeyleix...that is why I booked a break there in former visits. Staff are exceptional, gracious, friendly, efficient; property is clean and well maintained, with an open fire already glowing for early breakfast !
This is a gorgeous location and the bed, surroundings, and the proprietor are all incredibly inviting and very comfortable and relaxing! This may be the best place I've stayed in all of Ireland and certainly through Booking.com.
Location was great and it was so quiet in the woods- loved it . Breakfast was also brought to the room so it was a winner not having to go to ‘ a hotel restaurant’ type of thing. It was peaceful
Lovely House in a beautiful quiet location but just down the road from Abbeyleix which has amazing places to eat. Only a short stay but definitely recommend. Simon was a lovely host also. 🙏🏼
