The town is dominated by the stunning Byzantine tower; the rest of the town is buzzing with places to eat traditional food. The town itself is not particularly picturesque, but the surrounding beaches, scenery and landscape are majestic. It's good base for exploring the area and for getting boats to other areas as well as Mount Athos.

Great town for food and multicultural experiences.
Great town for food and multicultural experiences. Bad town to be in if it's raining as the power grid immediately fails and there are only a few places that have their own generators. The beach is ok but not that great - as in there are many other better beaches within one hour drive from the town.

If you decide to go to Ouranoupoli is a must to rent a boat.
If you decide to go to Ouranoupoli is a must to rent a boat. The cost is 70 eur/day (without permit) and you can go to Ammouliani and Drenia Islans by your self.
There you can find restaurants with excellent food.
You can stop in any area you want where you can spend some quality time.
I recommend the local pies with vanilla / apples / cheese / spinach...

An excellent starting place to visit Atos Monasteries by males while you (females) swim or sunbathe or drink on the beach :) You can enjoy delicious food or good house wine in various small restaurants along the shore. Advisable to buy olive oil or olives from small local producers on a very good price. Don't miss the wine too.

There are some prejudices about this city.
There are some prejudices about this city. Although I visited this city many times with my wife, we did not encounter anything that would disturb us. It is a very calm and peaceful city and its people are also very kind. Also, the food in the restaurants is very tasty, the prices are reasonable.
I booked this property for one night before I departed for Mount Athos and it was absolutely perfect in any way. The room was new, clean and spacious. The location of the hotel is right at the center and all the key points are within walking distance. There is a 24-hour reception and the staff was really nice. They answered all my questions and I even received a complimentary bottle of water. Just a perfect place considering it offered the one of the cheapest rooms, at the time I was searching for a property in Ouranoupoli.
Room recently renovated with private access. Quiet and well positioned not far from all point of interest. Very warm welcome. Everyday cleaning. Easy access to facilities and beaches. Friendly staff and locals. Host really helpful and available for every need. Advised the boat tours to Drenia and Ammouliani islands for crystal water, and Mount Athos. Best place to stay in Ouranoupolis.
Hospitality.
Very clean room.
Even if you do not have parking in front of the hotel you will very quickly find a street next to,no more than 5 minutes walk.
Lady on desk is local. She knows everything about everything in that area. She deserves all the praise from us. We stayed for two weeks and had no negative experiences. A big hug and thank you Konaki from my little son and us.
The location is nice, the place is quiet and peaceful. Our rooms were with nice sea views and they were very clean. The beach side is perfect, 3 minutes of walking by the hotel. There is fully renovated beach bar including food and beverage.
There are enough sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach side and around the pool. The hotel is perfect for family vacation.
Absolutely, we had a wonderful time at one of the city's oldest hotels. It's got that genuine, authentic charm that's hard to come by.
Cleanliness was spot on, and the location? Just perfect! We didn't have to go far to find great places to eat and shop.
The hosts were super friendly and always ready to help. We'd definitely come back!
Nice and clean hotel. We had a sea view room with a very sunny balcony. Few parking spaces for the hotel size. Nice and tasty breakfast but we stayed 2 nights only so not sure if it has a big food diversity.
Nice and clean beach, really close and you can go through a tunnel from the hotel directly to the beach, avoiding crossing the road .
We stayed in a brand-new, recently fully renovated, part of the hotel; everything was in great shape and we particularly enjoyed the spectacular sea view from our balcony; our hosts who were very welcoming and offered suggestions for local places to see
Mainly a family hotel with good amenities and very friendly stuff. Very clean, renovated rooms and a brand new pool.
The sea in front is very nice so if you want to stay in the hotel for your whole vacations its possible.

Tha half board is super. Brekfast with fresh orange juice and good coffe.
This was our third time staying in Hotel Avra.
It has an amazing sea view, quiet in the evenings, very nice terrace for coffee and breakfast, super clean and very nice staff.
The people that work in the hotel are extraordinary! They were so polite and helpful. The hotel is very clean and the food is tasty and well prepared. I had a great vacation.
The personal of Sunset Hotel was very kind, warm and helpful. The view from the hotel was splendid. The fact that we were welcomed every day by the dog from the hotel :).
The room was spacious, very clean and was cleaned every day. The stuff was welcoming. The view from the room was nice. Overall it was a good stay in Ouranoupolis.
Nice building, apart from the noise and the bathroom. Excellent location (though Ouranoupoli is so small it's hard to go wrong in the town centre). Good value
