A historic and highly symbolic town associated with the Greek uprising against the Ottoman Empire in the early 19th c. Strongly recommend a visit to the garden of heroes where it is moving for a Greek to see how many people from European nations and beyond came to help the cause of the Greek revolution. Would also recommend a visit to the lagoons and a taste of the locally produced avgotaraho (bottarga).
