As I was riding a motorcycle it was a secure place to stay, greated by a friendly chap who made me feel quite welcome. Could easily fitted a group of five in what I guess was a converted barn. Local pub was great for food, no frills but good home cooked food. Anyone riding the UK TET well worth a stay.

    Great centre for walking.

Great centre for walking. Wonderful countryside and woodlands. Several walks straight from village. Worth a short drive to the Faccombe estate for the Jack Russell pub and orbital walk from there. Wonderful country pub at Hatherden, just 5 miles away. Good coffee shop in village.

It was a wonderful 3 days of staying in such a pleasant place. Lovely hotel, the acres of gardens were beautiful and the staff excellent and couldn't do enough for us. We would love to visit again.

    Very dog friendly hotel.

Very dog friendly hotel. But we stayed in room 4 and the stairs were very steep. Our old dog would not have managed the stairs. We only stayed one night before we went to the races, so didn’t really see Hurstbourne Tarrant.

Lovely countryside pub featuring classic pub grub with a modern twist. Rooms are cozy and spacious, with a somewhat luxurious feel - eloquently shown in the size of the en-suite shower/bathtub! Pub restaurant is complete with a crackling fire and old-style gas lamps on the tables. Staff are friendly and work hard to accommodate your needs - in our case this was a later checkout time. Breakfast was delicious and great value for money! Cons were the lack of staff on shift when we went for dinner; not sure if this was a one off or not but we waited for a long time to get a menu and they regularly forgot our requests. Hot water switches off at checkout time (11am) so be careful if you decide to take a bath or shower around that time! I do wish they would list allergens on their menu and have a greater range of dishes available for vegans and vegetarians.

My wife and I like a country atmosphere with old world feel (not too modern). This comes with disadvantages such as poor décor and not enough maintenance. Considering the price for a room this hotel is about acceptable. The disappointment is in the restaurant which seems to have a short set menu, so not good for a long stay. Also the food is too arty. Not much for the main course so be sure to ask for a starter as well. There are country walks but the hotel is not close to anything of note. 4 miles from the village.

The hotel/pub was lovely and staff were nice abd had a lovely full English and one of the staff, I think the manageress kindly woke us for breakfast as we'd over slept. Only down side is we were robbed from inside of the pub of our weekend bags which is not the fault of the staff but they need better cctv and hopefully I am just warning to to keep your bedroom doors locked and be vigilant as we lost around £700 pounds worth of stuff between my husband and I and put a bit of a dampner on our stay but would definitely stay again. 😀

Esseborne Manor is a really well run independent hotel, within easy access of the local amenities Bombay Sapphire Distillery and of course Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) (The Downton cast stayed here on a regular basis). We opted for the seven course taster dinner which was excellent, and very reasonably priced. We also had a thoroughly enjoyable spa treatment with the lovely Joanna at Lime Tree Massage which is located on site

Great place to stay. Staff were very welcoming. Room was ideal for one night stay, will book larger room for 2 or 3 night stay. Breakfast was a real treat, freshly cooked, and plenty of variety. With Newbury and Andover just 15 minutes away the hotel was ideally situated for exploring. Thank you to the staff for making us welcome.

Located in a quiet rural area. The hotel could be called quaint. The dining room was well laid out and clean, as were the lounges. Staff were good, and the price reasonable for what was provided. The jacuzzi bath was very nice. I came because of the restaurant review and was disappointed.

I loved the place and the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and the room was small but very nice and well decorated. The breakfast was just excellent. There is a parking just in front of the hotel. We had dinner in the inn the first evening and it was good as well.

The George and Dragon is an exceptionally comfortable and well equipped pub / small hotel that is staffed by friendly and welcoming staff. Whilst my family and I were only able to have breakfast during our stay this was excellent. We shall certainly return.

Wonderful location and excellent breakfast and dinner. Well trained staff. Dog friendly with a huge garden to walk around. We have since learnt that the hotel is closing and is up for sale, so things have been run down. Such a shame.

For a small pub we found the room spacious with all the amenities you’d expect from a room in a 4 star hotel. The hot breakfast was cooked on demand and there were good choices, plus the usual cold buffet.
