This was the best accomodation we've ever had. There were so many wow moments that it is difficult to describe it all. It is a small pension owned by a very nice couple, that made us feel better than at home. Room was very nice, clean, with big bathroom. There was a home made cake prepared for us when we arrived. Breakfast are freshly made by owners, everything is delicious, and there is a big selection of home made cakes, that are simply gorgeous. Surroundings are very nice as well. We felt so good we didnt want to leave.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Ballater is a fantastic area, such beautiful surroundings with lots to do. Lots of walking and cycling options.
The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
Great hosts, made us feel at home immediately, very welcoming and helpful. High quality accommodation, lovely room with comfortable bed and quality furnishings. Delicious breakfast freshly prepared each day. Great location about one mile from Ballater in peaceful surroundings with great views. Also handy for visiting Balmoral. Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
The location is ideal for visiting Ballater and Balmoral. Parking is easy. We were welcomed by a very helpful man who was able to recommend some eating places in Ballater which we have enjoyed the evening meal at Alexandra Hotel. Also he was able to provide us his ironing board to borrow. The breakfast was quite good and the best thing was that it was nice to watch the red squirrels at the bird feeding station!
Staff were really accommodating and changed rooms for us to a refurbished part of the building. It was the equivalent to changing hotels. From a tired room that consisted of tired bathroom, and one plug socket to share to a modern upbeat room. Be aware that a non refurbished room is very expensive for what you get. Location for both Ballater and the surrounding Cairngorms especially Balmoral is second to none.
The location is great for visiting Balmoral and other castles. The whole place is warm and cosy and very clean. The staff especially Fiona are very friendly and helpful.Everything works.Breakfast is lovely and plenty of choice. The scrambled eggs and smoked salmon is especially nice.Parking next to the hotel. It is in Ballater which is a lovely town.It is right beside the bridge over the beautiful river Dee
The room was comfy. Breakfast was fabulous, made to order and served by the friendly owners. We had some lovely conversations with them. They are knowledgeable about the area, and suggested great places to eat and explore.
The location is right in the centre of town. Lots to explore in Ballater, with Balmoral Castle and Braemar nearby. Take advantage of the walks in the area, too.
Absolutely the best B&B experience we’ve ever had. Imagine your perfect B&B with luxury accommodations and friendly hospitality. Then imagine your perfect breakfast on top of that. Craggen fulfills all of those wishes and more. The location is ideal the setting is beautiful and the owners are true gems. Thanks so much to Louise and Martyn for a perfect time at their lovely home.
We were warmly welcomed as we arrived on our cycles, even though we were quite wet. Our host washed and dried our cycle gear and looked after us very well.
This area is very expensive for accommodation, but we felt against this background we chose well.
Highly recommend for those cycling Lands End to John O'Groats as the host is very cycle friendly!
Everything you could wish in a continental breakfast, excellent selection made for a perfect start to the day. The location was very good , a short drive outside of Ballater in peaceful surroundings. We loved it & would definitely recommend this hotel and as the new owners have only been there a relatively short time it will only get better & better
The breakfast was lovely and served hot at our requested time.
What a great couple who run this place! They went out of their way to give us information about the area and accommodate my food allergies!!! I would highly recommend this spot if you are visiting Balmoral Castle and the area!!!
Friendly Staff, excellent amenities, food excellent, hotel clean and room excellent. when I needed assistance to find a driver, the staff went out of their way to find a local contact who could make arrangements for me. now that’s exceptional service!
Looking for a place for a couple of nights for the Braemar Games. Good location outside of Ballater. Big rooms, handy kitchenette, great beds and an awesome shower kept us all happy. Great staff always offering to help
We enjoyed our stay at the Auld Kirk. Kevin and Helen were wonderful hosts. The room was beautiful and spotless, and the food was delicious. We loved visiting Ballater and enjoyed running the Seven Bridges Trail.
We had a lovely stay at the Gordon Guest house. Steve and Beth do a brilliant job of running a small hotel. Breakfast was fab and really comfy bed. We stay in Ballater a lot and will definitely stay again.
I hiked across Scotland for the TGO Challenge, and the Gordon Guest House was my one luxury stay during that effort. It was amazing - very clean, great food, comfortable bed, central local - perfect!
Location was perfect for Ballater and plenty of parking. Very quiet location. Plenty of good quality pubs, restaurants and coffee shops near by. Also close to very good walks.
Perfect location to explore the town & surrounding area. Room and bathroom were a good size and definitely met my needs. Staff were very friendly and sociable.
