Beautiful house about a 10 minute walk from the centre of the charming village . Lovely welcome from Dominique who makes you immediately feel at home. Ample parking and not far from the main N10 route if heading south towards Bordeaux or north towards the Loire. Ample breakfast and a boiled egg from Dominique's own hens. Highly recommended and excellent value for money.

Gazelle Guest House and Art Gallery, hotel in Verteuil-sur-Charente

Boasting a shared lounge and views of city, Gazelle Guest House and Art Gallery is a guest house set in a historic building in Ruffec, 30 km from The Cormenier.

Delightful hosts! I was alone in the house the first couple of nights but got to visit with the hosts sometimes in the day. Sheila even gave me a tour of the town. Very outgoing and a real pleasure to get to know. For the accommodations, I was expecting a shared bathroom, but she made the ground floor toilet private for me and my room had a sink and shower, so all that was a very pleasant surprise.

Stunning village with a beautiful Chateau.

Stunning village with a beautiful Chateau. We stayed here whilst house hunting and can’t rate it highly enough. The village is charming with a selection of restaurants and bars that are equally as charming. The Porte bleu was excellent for lunch and dinner, although be aware that lunch in France everywhere is strictly 12-2pm, and the Cafe de Dove lovely for a drink. We really loved Verteuil-sur-Charente so much so that that is the area we are looking to buy a house!

Verteuil is one of the prettiest villages locally, with all the basics - baker, pharmacy, butcher (though I didn't see that open), two restaurants, a bar/bistro and a wine bar. The chateau which dominates the village is open slightly odd hours - only on Sat/Sun outside the high season.

Quite simply a charming little town in a beautiful area.

Quite simply a charming little town in a beautiful area. We did not have time to tour the stunning chateau and will do that another time. Nice bars and eating places plus a bakery, butcher and a small, general store. A supermarket (several in fact) is only a short drive away. Kayaking along the stunning river is a must for those who are able.
