Saint-Marcel itself is a quiet village; we enjoyed walking to the center and its historic church. But the village is close to many historic attractions such as castles and Monet's home and gardens (Giverny), as well as the lovely Seine River.
This is not a hotel with many fancy extras but it does what it does quite well. Noise is a problem - all the room doors have an automatic closure which means that you hear bangs from the point when people start to get up in the morning to when they go to bed. As there seem to be many work groups (is the hotel owned by the company on the same site?) that can be very early in the morning and quite late at night.
The staff is very friendly, particularly the young man who checked us in that evening. The restaurant was surprisingly good (in the U.S. I don't usually go to hotel restaurants). Breakfast offered a nice selection, attractively laid out. The backyard looked like a real backyard - very inviting. They had nice plantings, a tiny chalet as a tool shed, art pieces for garden art, comfortable garden chairs.
The staff was not numerous but very nice and friendly. The bathrooms and showers are shared with the floor but I did not find them to be dirty, and the showers worked fine with the exception of one morning when hot water was just not coming in. I do not understand why some comments marked the hotel as creepy or anything similar, it seemed fine to me and as described (of course it is not a luxury stay).
Staff was great. When I came to hotel I was told I'm not in system and that they are fully booked. New girl at desk did what ever she could to overcome problem. She was very kind. Manager eventually came and sorted problem with booking and gave me spare room.
Used this hotel for a three day visit to the area and in particular day visits by car to Giverny and by train to Paris. It was an ideal location.the restaurant was very good and the large garden a welcome bonus. Plenty of free parking.
Lovely rooms. Loved the decor of the whole hotel. Great choice of food at breakfast and dinner. Ample parking. Friendly owners, but need to be able to speak some French.
Short drive to Giverny Gardens and to Bizy Chateau.
Friendly and efficient welcome. Accommodation as per above. The very appreciable extra +++ was the green space at the rear of the hotel with tables and benches. It offered a relaxing time for picnic after a tiring car trip
Possibly the best hotel I’ve stayed in. A unique and tasteful style, wonderful food, exceptionally clean, friendly, welcoming, accommodating and fantastic value for money.
Nice receptionist, very pleasant. Quiet hotel. Good value for money. Great location beside garage, beside an incredible greengrocers with a patisserie.
