This village saved 2000 to 5000 refugees during WWII.
This village saved 2000 to 5000 refugees during WWII. They continue to shelter refugees. There was also important Resistance activity. And they don't talk about it. But there are wonderful museums about that era. We have a lot to learn from these humble people.

This village has a very inspiring history of being a refuge...
This village has a very inspiring history of being a refuge for persecuted people, including children and adults, especially during WWII. SO many Jewish people were saved, yet these people are so humble about it. You can feel the kindness, openmindedness, tolerance. You feel welcome and at home everywhere: bookstore L'Eau Vive, the tourist office with Claire, very welcoming people, the local creperie. We are planning to come again next year. The Val du Rio worked very well for us. Beautiful and pristine nature on the plate/plateau.HELENEUnited States
