Ty Coz Breizh, hotel in Guidel

Offering a garden and garden view, Ty Coz Breizh is situated in Guidel, 18 km from Parc des Expositions Lorient and 19 km from Lorient Train Station.

The host family, Fabienne and Jacky, are great fun and make you feel at home immediately. Breakfast is simple but excellent, with crepes, fresh fruit, bread and home made jams - and deliciously naughty home made caramel - as well as juice and coffee. Not all hosts in Brittany are laid back, but these folk certainly are, giving you recommendations and certainly not suffocating you. Their garden is at your use and the river is at the end of the lane, if you fancy a swim! Warmer than the Atlantic for sure! It’s okay if you are a decent swimmer, so long as the tide is not in. They don’t speak great English, but, hey! it was great to be somewhere where you didn’t feel like a complete dork language-wise vis a vis our European friends. Mozzies can be a bit of a problem so pacy repellent.

Marcel the host and his family were fantastic. So friendly and accommodating. We forgot to say we had a dog but this was not an issue with them. Our dog also ran into their house a few times as he discovered there was food in there and again nothing but smiles and laughs. They have a lovely female German shepherd on site called ninja. She is dog friendly and just wanted to play whilst we are there. Note no cats allowed as owner has a serious allergy. Nearby there is a beautiful nature reserve with walls suitable for dogs. Bakery and supermarket 6 mins by car. Beach is the same. Owner lives above the flat which is a basement flat. Place was very well equipped. Good hot shower. Very clean and well presented/thought out. 2nd bedroom is pull out sofa but is pretty much brand new.

My accommodation was in Kerdurod, Gestel, not Guidel.

My accommodation was in Kerdurod, Gestel, not Guidel. Transportation into Lorient was by bus and the bus stop was adjacent the property, A round trip was 3Euros. My hosts were extremely kind and helpful which made everything so much easier, they took time to explain how to get into lorient which I visited every day to enjoy the festival, nothing was too much trouble for them,

I found Guidel Plages almost too good to be true.

I found Guidel Plages almost too good to be true. High Quality rental accommodation with idyllic views. Great beaches and a bakery that is so good. A few local bars and restaurants thrown in with a small port and supermarket. Busy spot but worth staying here and touring a little. I could live here and never leave.

Lovely little town with plenty to see.

Lovely little town with plenty to see. Drive down to Guidel Beaches, only a couple of miles and beautiful. Plenty of free parking. Take care swimming because apparently the wind can blow you out to sea. A word on eating - I love Italian food and used the town square Italian restaurant (on the corner) to order a spaghetti carbonara. I was served a bowl of bland pasta with strips of bacon on top. The most bizarre carbonara! However on Sunday night the only place open was Phil's Pizza Bar a few doors along. And there I had a brilliant Penne Carbonara - and lots of it. Well done Phil's.
