We were travelling to my son's wedding in the Loire Valley and needed somewhere to stay overnight off the N10. We just wanted somewhere to sleep and have breakfast for my husband, myself and my elderly father. The Étape de St Hilaire more than fulfilled our needs and expectations. Once we had caught the attention of our host (and possibly because I was able to converse in French with him) we had the friendliest of receptions. We were expecting just a couple of rooms but it was the whole of an apartment over the host's farmhouse. The location was off the main road so fairly quiet (just distant traffic noise) and the breakfast was superlative! The host's wife brought up a large basket of bread, croissants, homemade jams, homegrown damsons and eggs laid by their hens! It was just perfect.

Nice breakfast with homemade bread and jams and sweet little pancakes plus a fruit tart. Set us up for pleasant walk around the fields surrounding this farmhouse B&B. Guests have own communal lounge and this is where the TV is. Feels very much like a family home. Madame was away during our stay and her husband has just a little English but between us we managed to communicate. He tried very hard, and succeeded in giving us a pleasant experience and it was nice to stay with a private host - genuine B&B's seem almost to have disappeared in some places.

Lovely village. Chateau was amazing. Well equipped apartment and heating worked well.
