Hostería La Eterna Primavera, hotel in Alausí

An outdoor swimming pool surrounded by gardens and hammocks can be enjoyed in Huigra, 500 metres from the train station and 200 metres from Panama Cascade. Wi-Fi is free.

The location was very difficult to find, we were travelling from Cuenca and the roads were completely blocked with landslides. We thought we were booking a place in Alausi, but it is located in Huigra.

I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren!

I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren! The owners Lorena & Diego were attentive, friendly, and spent time with us during dinner. Lorena cooked for us a great meal as we requested! It's an old Spanish style restaurante that takes your breath away and the Food is incredible! Alausi can be a bit of a maze to drive around. But the second day, we were pro's!!!

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit .

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit . Hiking is great along the nariz del diablo train route - great views. Here you can also see a lot of indigenous ecuatorian people, especially on sundays at the indigenous market. If you want to sleep make sure you pick the right hotel because dogs and roosters are really loud here late at the night and early in the morning and many hotels have no soundproofing at all.

Alausi is a very safe and small town. You can easily walk everywhere in the main town. There are ATMs and lots of restaurants. Two to three days is a good time to explore the town and take the train ride.

Authentic town with cobblestone streets, lots of small restaurants nestled in the mountains. Large indigenous population with artisans and local fare. We were there for the Devils Nose Train ride which did not disappoint. Lots of hiking options for mountain views. Breathtaking scenery.

Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town.

Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town. The focus is the old train parked in town, ready for its regular trips up to El Nariz del Diablo. The streets are all up and down, except for the main treelined boulevard. There are a number of beautifully painted murals around town. We enjoyed grilled meat from the street vendors, as well as a delicious meal in restaurant Tikal. Alausi is a worthwhile destination, even without going on the train.

I spent two nights in Aluasi-- including Sunday, which was "Market Day". It was very un-touristy! Most tourists come just for a day to take the train and leave! The atmosphere in the city is very authentic and exciting! Lots of cheap vegetable, fruit and bread (and other consumer goods) all around the city. The old market and new market are both interesting, and you get a real look at life in the city! The city is very walkable!

A well priced Hostel/hotel close to the train station and main part of town. Recently refurbished and looked as new. Good finishes in the room and common areas. A full size share kitchen is available, and the on-site staff very attentive. The town was closed at night but quite lively by day especially on market day Sunday when nearby farmers are in town with women in traditional dress.

We loved Alausi! It’s a beautiful town and well worth a visit even without the train operating. The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and professional and served the best breakfast we’ve had yet at a hotel in Ecuador. We like places with character and this hotel has it. Highly recommended.

This is THE place to stay in Alausi! A hidden gem. 3 blocks up hill from the hubbub of the town’s main drag. Immaculately clean, tastefully designed euro modern, great views, wonderful staff….and their cafe across the quiet street is the nicest place to eat in town!
