I visited Sierra de la Ventana for a walking holiday, although the places to walk are spread over a large geographical area, so beware choosing your accommodation as you may be a long way from certain attractions. The nearby national park was closed on the day I had planned to visit. The town itself is pretty, shops close in the afternoon but re open in the evening. I visited midweek and found catering facilities limited. I would recommend for a quiet break.

Bear in mind that actually Sierra de la Ventana is the name of a city and the area (the Ventania region); there is also Villa Ventana which is a bit more expensive and is closer to the hills, trails, the state park (Ernesto Tornquist) and of course the Cerro Ventana ("Mt. Window", which has an opening resembling an open window at the top).
The trails are mostly long, several hours, but there is an easy hiking trail just in front of Cerro Ventana.
Sierra de la Ventana, the city: Its commercial area is noisy, the residencial neighborhoods are nice, if you don't like buses and kids everywhere then go far from it; follow the stream perhaps.
"Tranquility" has been evaluated on low season and week days, at a residential neighborhood far from the center; so don't bet your money on my experience alone.
