Dar Azawad, hotel in Mhamid

Dar Azawad is drowned amidst the palm groves and just 400 meters from the dunes.

When I arrived at this property, it was under construction and the owner has a second hotel in which I stayed. Welcome therefore was a bit disjointed, but at the new hotel I stayed at which was 600 m away. The staff are friendly. The hotel was well equipped with nice rooms, and a great ambience the food was good and served in a buffet style. I’ve given them a rating of eight overall, because of the obvious need to relocate because of the construction works that were taking place. However the hotel I stayed in I will give it 10 to.

Auberge la Palmeraie, hotel in Mhamid

Immersed in the palm grove of M’Hamid, the family-run Auberge la Palmeraie offers traditional accommodation in tents and rooms and traditional breakfast daily.

The auberge is kind of wonderful hideaway. Very quiet, with simple, but very clean and cute rooms. The food was amazing ( ate my best Tajine of our whole marrocan trip, breakfast delicous and rich). The two guys who run the auberge do an excellent cooking. Also booked a private tour to the desert, which for me turned out to be perfekt: away from the big camps, alone under a quiet sahara sky and my guide Mohamed played the guitar after a tasty meal at the camp fire... Although we couldn't quite communicate in a common language we had a funny time. After sunrise I sat there all alone at the highest dune to listen to the silence of the desert. Couldn't have been better.

A busy village with normal Moroccan/Desert life and passing tourists. Only a few tourists stay overnight. Limited number of restaurants. People are very friendly and welcoming. The whole village can be walked in 40 minutes. We had food at AZWAD which was nice. The tourist shops are typical of Morocco but not too pushy.

This small town is the entrance to the Sahara desert, so it’s an advantage for those who come for the trekking or the desert tours. The disadvantage is the sandstorm that hits directly the houses and streets of the town. Nevertheless the people in the town are cheerful and friendly, they welcome the visitors with lovely smile The town is rather new to the local people, a few km away from the town, the vast oasis spread in which embraces several Ksars with ancient earth and cray buildings. One can explore those ksars, meet the people in the communities, that is a precious experience apart from the camel rides or trekking in the desert.

M'Hamid is the perfect gateway to the Sahara Desert.

M'Hamid is the perfect gateway to the Sahara Desert. The village exudes a peaceful atmosphere, and the locals are incredibly welcoming. We used M'Hamid as our starting point for an unforgettable desert adventure. The camel trek into the dunes and the night under the starry sky were simply magical. M'Hamid is a hidden gem worth exploring!

Perfect place to start your trip into the Sahara desert.

Perfect place to start your trip into the Sahara desert. We went to the Chegaga dunes, 60 km by 4x4 on dirt tracks. There are several bedouin camps you can book for an unforgettable overnight stay. We booked with Chegaga berber camp. We highly recommend them. The return trip was 90€ (900 dirham) and well worth it.

Very nice and calm village with simple people.

Very nice and calm village with simple people. Village is big oasis what makes it very beautiful with river Draa, kasbahs and palms. There are many shops, beautiful mosque and the desert around, from where you can start your track. Mhamid you can look by your feet. But for go to desert better take a camel. You can take 4#4 but this will not give you feeling like you are Bedouin one :-).

We had an amazing time here. The family is very kind and took care of us. The place is very beautiful with attention to details. The room is simple and clean and has everything you need including hot water, excellent wifi, and peaceful nights. We had dinner and breakfast which were also excellent. We took the day trip out to the desert camp in the 4x4 and had a really memorable experience. The host even walked us to the bus at 6 in the morning to make sure that we had no troubles. We recommend this hotel and we would come back.

We left Fez in the morning and drove most of the day, entering the desert at sunset. We left the main road in the dark and drove along the road until we arrived at the Camp Desert Trips. This is an oasis in the desert. We spent two nights at the hotel and Said and his people made us feel at home cooking great food and playing music until late. The hotel is located next to the beautiful endless dunes and the tents are comfortable and convenient. We will be back, highly recommended.

The desert luxury camp was the highlight of our trip to Morocco. The camp's setting in the dunes was breathtaking, and our tent was like a five-star hotel room in the middle of nowhere. The staff's warmth and hospitality made us feel at home. We enjoyed the traditional Berber music by the campfire and indulged in delicious Moroccan cuisine. It was an unforgettable escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We had a wonderful stay with Younes. He has been a super friendly but not intrusive host who made us have an unforgettable stay. You don't need a camel tour, quad biking and no frills? Then you can enjoy a beautiful night with sunset, candlelight dinner, campfire and an unforgettable starlit sky at Berber Camp M'Hamid. Don't expect it to be a 5-star hotel, everything is kept simple, but very clean.

Stuff were very friendly and entertaining. I highly recommend this hotel. Camp Sahara Majestic is the truly magical place to spend incredible moments with cool humble people. I liked the traditional Berber symbol. thanks Aziz 🙏🙏🙏

What a great time we had in the Mhamid Sahara. The Chigaga Desert Luxury Camp is very comfortable tent accommodation in the dunes of the desert. The evening and morning camel rides should not be missed, the trip to Erg Chigaga via 4x4 car should not be missed too, We were served more than enough fresh fruit/vegetables and breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent. The staff were very helpful.

It was really unique experience to spend a night on the desert, it was so quiet and peaceful. We did not expect that food served there will be so amazing! One of the best meals (if not the best) we had during our trip to Morocco. You don't need 4x4 car to get near the camp, but you will need to drive very slowly and carefully. I would love to visit again.

Dawood and Hicham have been so nice with us, helped us in any way possible, from letting us cook to use the washing machine. Plus the breakfast was 10/10! Living in Morocco means that whenever I travel around I only look for authentic places. Dawoods place is one of them! Thank you Dawood, you are such a good host!

Everything was perfect. The room, the heating (it’s cold in February in M’Hamid), the dinner and breakfast, the service, the left luggage while on a stay over in the desert, the guitar and singing in the lobby… Our best guesthouse in two weeks in Morocco. We would book again immediately.
