The castle and gardens were closed but we have been in them before and so we were not disappointed. A walk along the river at the back of the castle is very nice and a good test of your waterproofs and footwear. Hulne park has good walks. Alnwick is a beautiful town. Berwick and Morpeth nearby, complement the area.

Alnwick is an excellent centre for visiting many locations in Northumberland, with lots of scenic coastline and castles on your doorstep. There are plenty of excellent places to eat however if you are going to stay over a weekend I would recommend booking a table in advance as they all get very busy. If you want to book the treetop restaurant book months on advance to avoid disappointment. Alnwick castle and gardens are a must if you have never visited before.

Both The Garden and Castle were well worth the ticket price.
Both The Garden and Castle were well worth the ticket price.
Informative tours are available with very knowledgeable staff. Even if you don't take a tour of the castle and wander around yourself, staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have about the history of the castle and gardens . A fantastic place to visit.
We popped out for a walk around the town mid visit and had no issue getting back in to the castle afterwards.

Alnwick is a beautiful place. Alnwick Castle is a must visit place. There are many things to do included in the entry fee. Barter Books excellent place. Charity shops have good quality items. Would liked to have stayed longer as I didn't have time to visit the Gardens.

Alnwick is great place to stay to explore Northumberland and do beautiful walks. A good breakfast sets us up for the day and always book our evening meals in advance with lots of restaurants to choose from, never been disappointed with our stay.
This was a fantastic house for a family vacation, close to everything in Alnwick and convenient for groceries, etc. Everything we needed was in the house, great decor, great showers, plenty of towels and linens, etc. We didn't have a car but it was only 5-7 minutes walk from the bus that took us to Alnmouth, Amble, Warkworth, etc. Just a 10 minute walk to the centre of town or the castle. The owner was helpful and accommodating, all in all highly recommend the Old Sweet Shop for anyone vacationing in Northumberland!
We had a small room at the back of the house so we were not disturbed by the traffic on the main road. The furnishings and bedding are all of very high quality and we were provided with lots of small extras ( chocolates, teas, etc) which we appreciated. There are no meals available so we ate at the Plough next door. We parked our car in the Plough's carpark and walked to the Castle and other attractions. We really enjoyed our stay in Alnwick.
We loved our stay here! It was fun being above the Dirty Bottles restaurant and we loved the proximity to Alnwick Castle as well as the center of town. And our room was incredible! The subtle Harry Potter decor touches were so fun, and the room was spacious and well-equipped. The included breakfast with menu options was also above and beyond what you'd normally expect with a complimentary breakfast. We wish we could have stayed longer!
The friendliest welcome from a perfect gent. Couldn't be more attentive. Room was lovely size to the front of the property. Comfortable and clean room. All the little details, fantastic, even an umbrella in the room. They seem to have considered everything for their visitors.
Breakfast was to a very high standard. Taking personal preferences into account.
Great place to stay, a traditional B&B.
A great place to stay in Alnwick if you're there to visit the town and Castle. Parking was great as its only a 10/15 minute walk to above and you can leave the car at Hotel. Alnwick town centre parking is limited
The breakfast was great and the evening meals we had were well cooked and value for money
General feel to hotel was stepping back in time a little but that was quite nice
The hostel was very good; the beds were very comfortable, there was free parking only a minute's walk away, and it was in a great location. Alnwick itself is a great little town, and there are a ton of castles nearby to visit (I personally thought Alnwick Castle was the least cool of the four we visited, but that's just me). All in all, I'm happy we stayed here.
The breakfast was very good and the dinner menu and food / drinks were also varied and good. We had dinner at the restaurant twice during our short stay though this could be explained by the lack of alternatives nearby. Parking was easy and accessible. The hotel was also easy to find.
Very good location, next door to Barter Books and within walking distance from Alnwick Castle and Garden. Free street parking around the corner. Comfortable room and bed. One of the best breakfasts of our entire 5 weeks in England.
The property is centrally located in Alnwick close to restaurants, cafes ,shops and the castle. Free parking is available nearby. This was our second visit to the Bondgate and is our preferred choice for accommodation in the town.
Superb location for visiting Alnwick Castle and Lilidorei. Five mins ish walk to the town centre and a handy corner shop very nearby. There was a very generous welcome box of food and drink too. Lots of lovely little touches.
Old building nicely kept and a very big room and bathroom at the back with views of the outline of Alnwick castle
Given vg guide to the free parking zone to the rear of the hotel when their own was actually full
Nice room in a pub, very spacious and clean.
The accommodation is in a great location near to the centre and walking distance to the amazing Alnwick Castle and gardens (which are well worth a visit).
Cute and cosy cottage, perfectly situated in the heart of Northumberland. The cottage had everything needed to enjoy a short break im Alnwick and explore the Northumberland castles and coastline.
Perfect location to explore Alnwick and easy to find.
Host really helpful. Dirty bottles was a great suggestion for a meal out and would highly recommend.
Clean and well equipped.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
The hotel was interesting - the dining room was once part of the Olympic (sister ship of the Titanic).
My room was clean and comfortable.
Great location, right in the middle of Alnwick. Rooms very spacious and tastefully decorated.
very handy having a restaurant downstairs too for meals and breakfast.
An absolutely beautiful boutique hotel in a great position in Alnwick, right by the castle and within easy walking distance to all the restaurants, cafes and bars.
An incredibly charming, well maintained property! Perfect location for a walk along a tree-lined street. Easy access to the castle and downtown Alnwick.
