Gleaming With Global Importance
Between desert and the Persian Gulf, Al Khobar is one of 3 neighbouring cities at the heart of the global oil industry. Dammam is the largest and has a huge port, while Dhahran houses a huge mall and the headquarters of Saudi Aramco - the world’s largest oil company. The Ghawar Field – the world’s largest oil field – is south-west and there are smaller fields nearer the cities.
Given their international importance, these cities have a large expat community and a host of world-renowned brands of shops, hotels and restaurants. Many are along the waterfront Corniche, one of Saudi Arabia’s most visited spots outside Mecca and Medina.
Lining the western edge of Al Khobar (or Al Khubar), this promenade passes palm-lined parks, a white mosque jutting into the sea, and a futuristic-looking water tower on a small island. The Corniche also backs sandy beaches with warm waters, though the best beaches are in Half Moon Bay.
This affluent city has no shortage of shops and popular Al Rashid Mall includes a children’s amusement area. The Giant Stores are also worth a look, even if just to see the gigantic shopping trolley out front.

Good place to enjoy beach access. The half moon beach bay is safe for kids and a comfortable place for families . Khobar has very good corniche areas for children to play and for families to relax . There are couple of science meuseums to that can show how the oil is processed . Ithra is a must visit for Infra structure admirers . Amazing city with quietness and serenity all around.
Amazing city with quietness and serenity all around. It is the sweet spot between modern and traditional, corporate and family-friendly, domestic and international. Favorite spots were Arjan Walk and the Corniche. I ate at a local Levantine place just beside the hotel I stayed in. Getting around was easy because of the affordable taxi rates. No other means of travelling around though. I would avoid going in the summer maybe, because the weather in winter was just spot on.

Al khobar corniche and salt city is the best! Malls, parks, filipino resto and uber services is excellent too. Uber drivers are speaking english which is good for travelling from one place to another. Kudos!!
