Swimming pools were great. The kids clubs activities were varied and the staff working there were incredible with kids. The buffet food options were delicious, offering lots of different types of cuisines. The pool bar food and drinks during the day were freshening and yummy and we honestly loved every day there. The rooms are amazing, light switches for everything, huge but practically designed bathrooms - it was very luxurious to be there.
There were some staff members who made it extra special: B and Chandani in Kids Club, Rankin(?) older gentleman at the pool, Sanduni, Sandeep in the kitchen.

Weligama, with its enchanting coastal charm, offers an array of memorable spots that can become instant favorites for any visitor. Among these, the picturesque Weligama Bay stands out, renowned for its gentle surf and panoramic views, making it an idyllic spot for both surfers and those looking to soak in the serene beach atmosphere. Another favorite is the iconic Taprobane Island, accessible at low tide, offering a unique glimpse into a secluded and luxurious retreat with its lush tropical gardens and historical mansion.
Dining in Weligama is a delightful experience, with a plethora of options ranging from local street food stalls serving delectable seafood and traditional Sri Lankan fare, to more upscale dining experiences by the beach, where you can enjoy fresh, grilled seafood while watching the sunset. The Roti Shop, a quaint local eatery, is particularly notable for its mouthwatering selection of rotis filled with an array of flavors, providing a taste of local cuisine that's both authentic and affordable.
Getting around Weligama is relatively straightforward, thanks to its compact nature and the availability of various transport options. Tuk-tuks are ubiquitous and offer a convenient and economical way to explore the town and its surroundings. For those looking to cover longer distances or explore at their own pace, renting a scooter or a bicycle can be an excellent choice, providing the freedom to discover hidden gems along the coast.
On a subsequent visit to Weligama, one might consider avoiding the more crowded, commercialized spots during peak tourist season, to preserve the tranquil experience that Weligama is known for. Additionally, being cautious about engaging with overly persistent vendors or unofficial tour guides can help avoid any uncomfortable situations, ensuring a more enjoyable and authentic experience of this beautiful coastal town.

Relaxing beach for surfing, beach walks, beach games & family time together.
Safe beach area & you get lots of nice cafes and restaurants to try out with a good range of food & drinks with music to enjoy. We really enjoyed Ceylon Sliders as our brunch spot & Cheeky monkey for dinner with some super cool music. Kurumba bay is super cool too for a range of food choices.

You go to Weligama to learn surfing, or otherwise use the beach.
Otherwise the place is maybe a bit too chaotic, dirty, and loud for European travellers ;)
There is garbage collection, but still a lot of garbage is lying around and ending up in the sea.

Weligama is small town.
Weligama is small town. We lived little outskirts in rural area, Weligama is cheaper than other distinations such as Mirissa nearby. However if one needs to party and need restaurants then you cannot find many at Weligama.
We were looking for quiet, relaxed and comparitively cheaper 15 days break between our two months vacation and Weligama helped us with same. Mirissa beach is more better and lively than Weligama Beach. However small section of beach near Cape Weligama resort via Kumbalgama junction is quiet and peaceful.
Having your own or rented vehicle is definitely plus point or else one has to hire Tuktuk to Mirissa which may cost 1000-1400 LKR To and Fro dependinging on your bargaining skills.
Once can definitely go to both mirissa, unwatuna and galle from Weligama on day excursions.

Weligama beach itself is very crowded and not very clean; however, there are amazing and practically empty beaches just a few minutes away. Options for restaurants like almost everywhere is a hit and miss, but I did find amazing and varied options for very good prices.
Thanushka - manager of the hotel - is a great guy! Really-really-really helpful and nice(thank you again for everything!). Also - and that's important - his English is quite good. At first I booked this place for 4 days - and ended up spent here 4 weeks out of my 6 weeks in Sri Lanka. Perfect value for money rate.
Cool view from the balcony - it's literally a sea in 20 meters.
The room styled really nicely. (colourful lamp and lightning in the photo are mine :)
We booked the hotel last minute and got immediately our rooms. I really liked the rooftop of the hotel with nice view on the sea. The location of the hotel is perfect if you are looking for nice and not overcrowded beaches within a 5 minute walk. The bed was huge and the breakfast was delicious (Pankcake, typical Sri Lankan dishes). Everyone was really friendly and helped me in case of questions.
My recent stay in Sri Lanka, booked through Booking.com, was nothing short of incredible, thanks to the amazing hostess, Babi. The property's serene ambiance and stunning views provided the perfect escape. Babi's warm welcome and attention to detail made me feel at home from the start. I'm truly grateful to Babi for her exceptional care and kindness, making my stay unforgettable!
I was planning a fee days and ended up staying more than a week. I felt so comfortable. I was at home. Irish, the owner, would come everyday to check we were good, cleaning the common areas, checking if we needed something…
He would stay and tall with us. Felt like a friend. I was sad when leaving and if I visit again Sri Lanka, Weligama Bay House is my comfort place.
It's a very very social place which makes it very easy to meet other travellers, go to parties and enjoy Weligama together. I enjoyed having a kitchen (because in many hostels in Sri Lanka there's not). Also the location is really nice - not directly at the beach but still 5 minute (or less) walking to the surfschools, also supermarket and shops are super close.
Amazing location, right smack on the beach! If you’re up for surfing, Soul Temple Surfing School is right across the road, where you can easily get a surfboard from and walk back across, through Alma, and right to the water!
I requested for breakfast not from the menu and the chef prepared it for me! Hotel staff are warm and friendly!
Great value for money.
The best place we stayed in Sri Lanka. Good value for the price. Verry beautiful and peaceful place close by river. around 4km to weligama beach where you can surf or relax. The cabana we stayed in was super clean and beautiful. The owners and the staff were super freindly and helped us with everything we needed. We are highly recommending secret river🙂🌟
Super lovely vibes making this hostel a home of choice. Perfect location next to the beach, central bus station and lots of food options nearby. The courtyard with chillout area is great to have a chat, coffee, beer... with other travellers or just escape from the busy Sri Lankan life. Had an amazing time there!
Perfect location, best restaurants, beach clubs next to the hotel, clean and neat, smells spectacular, all rooms ocean view, rooms wide and fresh. Also all employees are always very respectful, helpful, and understanding, with always smiling faces, 10/10 would come again
The Best hotel during our stay in Sri Lanka (by the way, there were 8 hotels). It has modern and stylish design, incredibly delicious breakfast, a beautiful beach within a walking distance. I am extremely grateful to the staff for their help, care and kindness
Superb delicious breakfast with Sri Lankan style. We got many verities on food pack. Lovely stay at all the time. The host Mr.Jeewantha was really helpful and give his best options to us. Highly recommended to all with giving 5 stars. superb stay at weligama..
Nice breakfast buffet. Near some other nice restaurants. The rooms are awesome. The views of the bay are spectacular. The menu (at night) highly recommended. The best Hotel in our trip to Sri Lanka (the most expensive also).
Location, view and facilities are unbeatable, it is literately one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. Service was very good. Staffs were very welcoming and always supportive. Food is very tasty with lots of variants.
Enourmes room. Extremely big. Super comfortable beds. Best shower we had in sri lanka. Great pool with jaquzi bulitin. This is a family hotel. Mrs&Mr Diaz are the best hostess you can find. Really great time.
We were out of season and the hotel was almost empty. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Hot water in the shower with great stream. Everything was clean abd stuff were very friendly and helpful.
We ate the best breakfast and dinner in Sri Lanka here! Ask the team when you arrive to prepare dinner for you, you will not be disappointed! The hotel is very aesthetically pleasing and calm.
Nicest owner we have met during our time in Sri Lanka! Breakfast was super delicious and it was nice that we could buy beer at the hotel. Would definitely reccomend while staying in Midigama.
Hotel is right on the beach and in the middle of the surfing action. Room had a nice balcony and the staff was really friendly. Surf boards and lessons available at a reasonable price.
