La ciutat com a tal no és una ciutat patrimonial d'alta jerarquia. Evidentment no es pot oblidar que hi ha el museu arqueològic i l'històric i que a 5 km hi ha Knossos. Té una muralla i un port prou agradable, però el centre històric és molt normal, és a dir, no hi ha gaires edificis monumentals. Hi ha molts problemes d'aparcament i les voreres en algunes zones són irregulars i fins i tot perilloses, dons els hi falten losetes o tenen forts desnivells. Veritablement una persona amb cadires de rodes ho té difícil.
